To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

Pours hazy golden yellow with a fluffy belgian lace head. Aroma has traces of white grape and belgian candi sugar. A light belgian strong ale flows over your tongue with grape tannins and a strong flavor of chardonnay grapes.

Draft. Golden mildly hazed pout. Really refreshing beer, slightly tart and vinous? Effervescent.

Slightly hazy light copper pour, white head. Nose is really nice - melon and grape abound. Taste is odd, lots of fruit esters build towards a grape heavy finish.

2013 bottle poured into an Allagash chalice. Pours a translucent gold with a big white froth of foam. Good retention and lots of webby lacing. The aroma is grassy, musty, and herbal. It actually reminds me of a pilsener. Odd. Taste is sweet and grainy. I get notes of vanilla, white grape skins. Bigger bodied with a softly spritzy mouthfeel. Medium carbonation.

From notes. Tasted at a tasting at Curtis’s old house, probably around early 2012, from a corked and caged 750mL bottle that I bought at Lush long ago. Pours hazy deep golden with a thick white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is sweet caramel and grape juice with just a touch of bitterness and some spicy yeast. The flavor is lighter on the sweetness but the same otherwise. The body is full with average but stinging carbonation and a long grape juice and Belgian yeast finish.

Fun play on a white wine and beer mix. Good woody tones from the grapes. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the Red.
