Commercial Description:
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

Pours a dark gold/orange with large white head. Fruit, biscuits, grain, banana, spice, sweet honey, wine grapes, citrus, and earthiness. Quite interesting with the grapes, but a little to much carbonation.

On tap at the Maproom in Chicago. The body was dark gold with an off white head. The aroma was malty bread with some hints of funk. There was also a light floral character. The taste was sweet potatoes with a light tobacco finish. There was some cinnamon spice that came through as it warmed. Decent.

This corked and caged bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a transparent typically carbonated yellow orange colored body. The aroma contained notes of grapes and malt. The mouth feel was smooth and only slightly tingly from start to finish. The flavor contained mild notes of malts and grapes with a slight acidic hop finish.

I was not sure what to expect here considering I hate Chardonnay. This was interesting, a beautiful glossy and radiant pour. Reminscent of a trippel, but the nose tells you otherwise, lots of buttery notes, a bit of vegetal earthiness, yeasty spice notes, rounded out by some sweet honey. The palate, has a bit of a sour tang, and a terribly uncomfortable acidity and overcarbonation. Not one of my favorites.

750ml bottle from beachbum25. Pours a hazy yellow with a light orange glow. Big, frothy white head with good lacing. Lots of citrus fruits, Belgian yeast and banana on the nose. Flavor was sweet and fruity with a light bite of alcohol.

750 mL pours a hazy golden color with a huge white head. aroma is tart with some yeast and wine notes. mouthful is dominated in the beginning with tartness of the grapes and then faded to a bitterness and some spices that made for a busy brew.

Corked and caged bottle.Large very fizzy white head that mostly diminished, splotchy lacing, transparent, fast rising carbonation, and a yellow hue. Nose was sweet, grapes, malt, and some notes of honey.Ditto for the flavor.Tingly mouthfeel and medium in body.Easy drinking brew, but the flavor just didn’t come together for me. It’s not a bad beer by any means, but given the style and it being a beer from Allagash, it was disappointing.Sorry, Allagash.
