4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2009 vintage. Pours moderately cloudy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger fluffy dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big white grape, grape skin, pear, apple, honey, floral, apricot, grass, herbal earthiness, white wine, light black pepper, light funk, and light yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity of malt notes and yeast esters. Taste of big white grape, pear, apple, apricot, honey, floral, grass, herbal earthiness, light pepper, white wine, light black pepper, light funk, and light yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruits, honey, floral, grass, light pepper, herbal earthiness, light funk, and white wine on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor balance and complexity of malt/yeast esters; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly slick and very smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian Strong pale ale. Great flavor balance and complexity of malt and yeast esters; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I think the best thing about this beer is its appearance- a huge thick, foamy, off-white, slow to settle head with lots of lace and a very clear golden color. Aroma is malt, grain, yeast. Flavor is very mild, understated, malty, slightly metallic, yeast, a bit of carbonic tart, fairly dry. Texture is light, soft. This is a very low-key Belgian Style Strong.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Cask and Vine while enjoying the company of Todd the Hoople.
Lightly hazy deep straw with hints of wine yellow if that makes any sense. Fruity earthy spicy aromas and flavor. Interesting brew a bit outside of the box. I enjoyed this more than its counterpart.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Note that it is better to have wIth salty foods than with sweet/chocolate foods. You can taste the grapes as it has a sIght raisin oaked barrel taste. Not a hearted beer, rather heavy but easy enough to finish a 750ml alone in 2 hours! Bottle

Yeasty, slightly phenolic nose, hint of apple underneath. Cloudy opaque gold color with a fine white frothy head. Slightly syrupy body, grapey and grassy taste with an astringent bitter finish.

"Nice mix of honey and white grape sweetness, and light funk (though more pronounced than Victor). A rare blend of refresher and contemplative sipper. Very nice."

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Is there anything better than the Allagash reserves? Just opened a caged and corked 750ml bottle from 2011. Pours a gentle yellow with a thick consistent cloud. Strong ale taste that draws you into the whole bottle. Just another wonderful offering from the great brewers in Portland, Maine. Cheers!

Very understated beer. Pours cloudy blonde with great head and carpet lacing. Some citrus and florals, though citrus is rather more pronounced than most of style. Finishes with light sweetness. Light oajy bitterness as well. Tap at RFD.
