Commercial Description:
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

(750 ml bottle from Downeast Beverage Co., cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Pretty nice but nothing really standout...Pours hazy amber/orange with about two fingers of soft off-white head. Nose is mostly yeasty, also some sour grapiness. Mouthfeel pretty smooth, lightly carbonated, on the thick side for a Belgian. Flavor is yeasty, kind of wheaty, slightly grapey, a tinge sourish. The grapes really didn’t stand out. Slightly hot.

Luminescent hazy gold. Fizzy, fast disappearing head. Smells sugary sweet, yeasty, custard, apple sauce, pear sauce, white grape juice. Very sweet but complex in its sweetness. Palate remains relatively clean, not sticky or cloying, with decent level of carbonation. In spite of how sweet it tastes, it remains clean and is complex. Tastes like it smells: too sweet but palatable with lots of ripe plum, pear, and white grape juice. Ice-wine like in flavor profile.

On tap at FFF Brewpub. Pours golden, amber. Nicely hopped, but a great grape component comes through well. Excellent mix of hops and grapes. Nice changup.

750ml - Poured a darkish yellow amber in color with a medium whitish head that coats the beer. Really good lacing on th e glass. Aroma is sweat and yeastywith plenty of fruitiness (white grapes, apples). Flavor is yeasty with a mild Belgian, dry (sweetness no more) character... bubbly... Finish is quite dry and short.... lingering fruitiness. Not bad... not that great... a quite good beer though...

Taste 9/8 Bottle(2006) Looks: Gold body, white top. Aroma: Nice Belgian aroma with a grape sweetness. Taste: A blend of Belgium and grape. Full and even with a good finish. Dry, effervescent with a little sourness. Glad I tried it.
