COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

Year old cellared bottle (thanks Dave). Pours a piss yellow until the yeast drops in there and then the haze develops with a nice thin white head. There is a nice yeasty sweet white grape juice aroma [with a tiny hint of mint?]. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Can’t feel any thickness at all. Leaves a little chalky after-feel in the mouth though. I could kill a few of these before they hammer the nails into my coffin! Nah, I’ll stick around and drink them during poker (so what if I lose all my money).

From C&C 750. Pours a clear orange with light, off white head. Nose is luscious fruit, yeasts and a nuttiness. Flavor follows with white grapes and a hint of alcohol. Palate is smooth, with a medium thick mouth feel.

Bottle... 2009 vintage poured a pale golden with a white head. Very vinous with a decent white grape tartness. Lactic acid lent to a nice tartness with a light fruit finish.

750 ml. bottle from Mac’s on West Peachtree. 2009 edition. I don’t know what bottle # it is, and quite frankly I don’t give a shit. A little on the expensive side, as are all Allagash brews, but they have all been relatively tasty. Light orange dark yellow appearance. Translucent brew. Has a nice head that sticks around for some time. Pretty nice looking brew. "Ale brewed with grapes", hell yes it was! Easy to tell that there are grapes here. Strong aroma of grapes and yeast. A very fruity aromatic aroma. Very fruity aroma that seems a bit misleading in the sense that I feel as though I am about to drink grape juice. Some sugar sweet aroma coming through as well. Wood-age this thing and it would be insane. Very smooth brew. Nice rich texture. The grape flavor dominates. Grapes come through more in the aroma than in the flavor. Yeast, grapes, and sugar are dominating the flavor, with a lingering grape flavor. Some slight bitterness towards the end, but it is VERY subtle to where can enjoy it mixing with the grape sweetness. Nice twist to a Belgian Strong. I can’t taste the alcohol whatsoever.

Murky gold with good, creamy, white head / Nose of grapes, citrus, and funk / Medium body, sour with some sweetness, fat with low carbonation, and with good, lightly bitter, finish / Musty flavors of banana, white grapes, orange, lemon, resin, oak, and straw / Fat, somewhat hefe-like. Not my taste but well done.

GAManiac (1903) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - AUG 1, 2009
On tap at the Brick Store. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a big creamy white head that recedes slowly to a soapy swirl along the top. The aroma has lots of lightly toasted grains, wheat and a got bit of Belgian yeast. As it warms, some light sweet fruits come out - candied pears and apples mainly. The taste is sweeter than the aroma and the toasted grains are much more in the background. The fruits are more prevalent and hit the tongue quickly with a slightly sugar-coated character. The yeast makes its presence felt mostly in the finish with a lingering dry spiciness on the palate. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with lively carbonation, which all adds up to an extremely drinkable beer. This is a solid Belgian ale that goes down super fast and easy. It’s not the most complex or tasty version of the style, but it is one of the most drinkable. Excellent.
