unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 13, 2008 bottle. nice cloudy pale yellow appearance. just what you look for in a witbier. the head faded rather quickly but the clove and coriander aroma is there. quite a bit of carbonation but it doesn’t detract form the taste. the unique element that allagash has added is a mild bitter which i haven’t come across in the whites that i’ve tried. very nice. it gives it a crisp, refreshing edge that is sometimes lacking in this style. balances the sweet banana and spice well. definitely worth picking up.
joeymacaroni (181), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2008 On tap at Marshallton Inn. pours a light orange with a thick creamy head. notes of pear, banana, orange, lemon, and coriander on the nose. flavor is delicate, slightly acidic, with more lemon and spiciness. refreshing. TeamTrappist (363), jericho, New York, USA Jun 10, 2008 Tap at Lenora’s way in Brooklyn. So for my 100th rating, I was going to try something special, a bit out of the ordinary. I have a few special beers coming in and was going to wait for one of them to rate, but it didn’t turn out as I planned. On this super hot day in NY I wandered in to this bar around noon, and found it empty. The owner let me in and said he wasn’t fully open but feel free to sit down. A moment later, someone walks in and they start talking about an event, which I ask them about. At this point they both turn to me, and the owner introduces me to Rob of Allagash. I have to say I was pretty thrilled to meet him.I had yet to order a beer, but at that point it only made sense to order an Allagash, and the white was available on tap so that made for an easy choice. Now wheat beer is really not my thing, but under the circumstances, and with the fact that Rob immediately said to the owner, "I’ll buy that" made the beer that much tastier. He was extremely nice, and I enjoyed the few minutes that I got to chat with him. So my 100th review didn’t go as planned, but it couldn’t have gotten much better. Oh yea, the white is pretty tasty, and refreshing on a hot day, even for the non wheat beer fan. docswife (27), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Jun 9, 2008 Pours hazy yellow with large head. Aroma of coriander, orange and banana. Very light and refreshing. Easy drinking. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 8, 2008 12oz bottle. pours hazy glowing gold with creamy white head. aroma is wheaty, orange, and floral. flavor notes are wheaty, orange, coriander, and flowers. a light body, med carbonation. this may be the american representation of the style. auderale (572), Fairchild AFB, Washington, USA Jun 8, 2008 Draft: Hazy yellow colored pour with small white head. Sweet, wheat nose, hints of banana. Wheaty, yeasty finish. Not too bad. PhatB420 (126), Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA Jun 8, 2008 Love this spice filled beer. The best white i have ever had. The craftmenship here is remarkable. JaPe (69), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2008 I was born in Portland. My wife swears it smells like hotdogs. Hazy colour and lots of carbonation- tickles the tongue. Crisp yeasty flavor like a good Belgian orquebec white. Not too sweet, very sophisticated.
