PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 25, 2007 Bottle: Pours a cloudy honeyish golden with a white creamy head. Simple aroma. Mainly damp, papery wheat malt; lacking citrus & spices. The flavor is simplistic as well, having a banana sweetness and plenty of yeast character. Has a mild papery finish. There isn’t enough citrus or spices in this example of a Witbier. I expected more from this brewer for this style. Hangover (764), Atlanta, USA Nov 22, 2007 Cloudy yellow pour with a billowing white head and nice lacing. Lemon, banana and yeast in the aroma. Mouthfeel is good, lots of carbonation. Taste reveals some citrus, more lemon. Somewhat tart middle. Yeast lingers into the finish. Finish is a bit sour. Overall, very good. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2007 Pours a cloudy pale yellow color with a bit of yeast on the bottom of the bottle. Small head... I think this beer may be a bit stale because there is a skunky nose and the taste is a bit marijuana like. Anywho... there is a nice wheat like taste to it but there is not much to this beer style. Just ok. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Nov 20, 2007 Draught at Sheffields, Chicago Muddy light blond color. Light aroma, some wheat, spices, citrus fruits. Simple flavor; poor, with a hint of citrus fruits. Useless to me. Charlzm (247), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 19, 2007 On draft, consumed 11/19/07. Cloudy, light yellow color typical of this style, although the damned lemon wedge was not. Aroma is lemony citrus - can’t tell how much was the beer and how much was the lemon wedge. Flavor likewise lemony with yeasty, spicy clove flavors and hints of grass. Clean finish. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Nov 18, 2007 A fabulous beer all around in an under-rated style. Wheats get little respect from many in here, but this is one that should be savored.
Pours a beautiful hazy yellow with a small white head. Consumed sans fruit. Aroma is strong citrus and floral notes - some lemon, perhaps some rose or vanilla as well. Flavor is a wonderful blend of sweet malt and just a touch of bitterness to balance out the brew. Yeasty esters are prevalent in aroma and flavors. I’m a big Allagash fan. This is one reason why. SSSteve (2045), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 17, 2007 cloudy white/yellow pour with a small frothy white head. aroma of banana, vanilla, and some lemon. nice grainy, banana, lemon flavor. light-med bodied. sharp carbonation. good plain solid example. jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Nov 12, 2007 Pours cloudy yellow/golden with a small fizzy white head. Semi-sweet candied lemon zest aromas, with an overall grassy note. Flavor is of watery lemon grass and doughy yeast, but little else. Palate is light, slightly tart, and watery. Not bad, but as I said, watery and very one-dimensional.
