CigarsLoveBeer (153), Illinois, USA Apr 22, 2007 Bottle: Nice white head, white a very pale body. Aroma is pleasing, not quite as overpowering as many Wits. Nice mix of citrus, yeasts, and cooking spices. Starts out tart, with an underlying sweet fruit quality. Definite banana qualities here in the finish. Not quite as crisp as I expected. Apple and yeast noted. A somewhat restrained version of a Belgian Wit that seemed to have many German Hefe qualities to it. Only major complaint would be that the bitterness at finish did not work for this beer. Interesting interpretation of the style though. mfaulke (81), clemson, South Carolina, USA Apr 19, 2007 This was not a bad white. I was expecting a little more in the flavor department. Everything else is cosistent with other beers I have had in this style. kegoguinness (45), Dodge City, Washington DC, USA Apr 18, 2007 Oh my gosh it’s Allagash! This was a refreshing quaff, good sir, but lacking in the oomph department, I do say. It smelled good and spicy, but I didn’t really get much flavor overall. What was there was smooth, tranquil and decent. I was hoping for a little more spice than I got. Decent Wit, nothing to write to grandma about. Duster72 (117), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Apr 16, 2007 Pours a golden color. Aggressive decanting still leaves some yeast in bottom of bottle. Aroma is lemons, peppery spices, and yeast. Taste is dominantly banana with some orange, lemon, and bready yeast. Mouthfeel is on the light side, which I enjoy. Slightly bitter finish is rather unpleasant. Fine beer, but slightly overrated, IMO. Derek881 (486), Frederick, Maryland, USA Apr 16, 2007 Sampled on draft at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. The color was a light, cloudy gold, which was lighter on top, with a creamy white head. A fruity malt aroma, with a touch of orange, and plenty of wheat and yeast; perhaps some grainy/grassy hops. The taste was mostly sweet and fruit, some spice, but a sour finish too. It had a thicker feel on the palate, without a lot of carbonation or fizz. A pretty good beer for the style, but not one of my favorite types. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Apr 16, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. Fruity esters and a little bit of spice in the flavor. In the aroma, the spiciness is not too strong. Good mouthfeel for the style. Dry, refreshing finish. This is one beer I would drink more often... NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Apr 15, 2007 bottle. Pours a very cloudy light yellow with a creamy, white head. The aroma is full of sweet banana and cloves with Bavarian-type hops. Rich banana character is present in the flavor without much of a sugary flavor. There’s a wheaty, grainy note throughout with some light cloves in the finish. It’s very refreshing and reasonably full bodied. I think this is one of the better Witbiers I’ve had. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Apr 13, 2007 Poured 12oz. bottle into Hoegaarden tumbler. Pleasant aroma of coriander and cloves. Crisp flavor with orange and lemon with a zesty spice. This is spot on for this style. If you like Hoegaarden then you’ll like this.
