On tap at the Trappist. Aroma has tons of spicy phenols. Lots of clove, coriander and grains of paradise. Some sweet malt notes. Light fruity esters - some citrus and pear and a hint of banana. Pours a nice pale, cloudy golden yellow with a moderately thick white head that steadily recedes. Decent lacing. Flavor has a nice grainy flavor with some cracker malt as well. Moderate to low phenolic notes, but lots of esters. Lot of fruitiness - peaches, dried apricots, some banana and juicy fruit notes. Moderately low bitterness. Low alcohol flavor and light fruity hop notes. Fairly sweet malt notes - sugary. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very low astringency. Moderate to moderately high alcohol warmth. Overall pretty good. The ester notes are slightly different than expected and kind of enjoyable. The alcohol warmth is a bit strong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

PhillyCraft (3190) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2013
On tap at Pour house, hazy golden pour with medium white head. Notes were pear, apple, belgian spice and yeast, bready malt, spicy hops and a good bit of booze. I havent been drinking many trip’s in the last couple years but this one was decent if you take away the excessive heat.

Tap at Raglan Public House in OB. Hazy yellow amber with a small white head, low retention. Aroma of Belgian yeast, light lemon orange citrus notes, hay. The flavor is a little stronger on the orange and farmhouse hay front, adding in a bit of musty notes as well as lemon and alcohol. Light honey sweetness is gone by the time I get to the dry hopped herbal finish, bitterness peaked at a 3ish. Low carbonation with a medium body. Very tasty. Yakuza=Sorachi Ace? One of the better Sorachi Ace hopped beers, IMO.

In short: A crisp Tripel with a farmhouse-ish twist
How: Tap at Three Penny Taproom, Montpelier VT
The look: Clear blonde body topped by a medium white head with good retention
In long: Nose has pleasant cerealic & fruity yeast esters that I’d describe as toasted banana peels and also a light musky sensation. Very inviting aroma. Taste is medium sweet, musty, sun dried toasted hay, dried bananas, fresh bananas, spicy candies, pine sap, more... Nice presence of noble grassy hops in the finish. Well balanced. Something about the whole thing (sun dried hay, musty, etc.) create a rural countryside sensation, and I like that in a beer. Full body and lively carbonation. Every comes together rather well here, very cohesive in a way that listing flavor elements cannot express. It may not be up there with their famous regular tripel. I really liked this beer, I know abbey tripels are not exactly the ‘cool’ thing nowadays, but I’m not one to give up on something because it is not trendy anymore, I’m attached to old traditions, I still have a regular ground phone line at home, very useful to find my cell phone.
