330 ml bottle from Glug Newcastle poured into a1/2 pt. chalice. Coal black with a dense tan head. Coffee, leather and liquorice aroma. Plenty of liquorice in the flavours too, with some tarry smokiness. Dry palate with a long finish. Nice as a one-off, wouldn’t want a lot though.

Cask, handpump, Tilly’s, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Wednesday 1st October 2014. Pours black with a slim tan head. Rich and full flavoured, hops show, the finish is dry. This is just a little past its best and becoming a bit tired, still the abv and flavours carry it through. Roasty in mouth. Will look out for this again when in top nick. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Bottle at Tilleys, Newcastle on 27 July 2013. Poured black with a dense beige head. Aroma of burnt malt, but with acrid acidic notes. Roasted malt and coffee flavours, but mouth feel wasn’t as thick as I had hoped. Slight sour note of the palate, but mostly more coffee and bitter chocolate.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2013 This very dark brown-black beer pours with a rapidly disappearing bright brown head. Rich chocolate and liquorice flavours dominate with roasted coffee notes and a creamy, sour fruity and bitter chocolate finish. Bottle Conditioned.
