COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
A beautiful red coloured, full bodied beer taking its name from the famous wolf of Allendale. With bitterness coming from Challenger hops and a fruity blackcurrant aroma coming from Willamette hops. At 5.5% abv. this really is beer with bite!

Cask at GBBF 2007. A hazy brown beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet and very malty, while the flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and a light roasted note.

Cask at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury. Hazy copper/mahogany colour. Fudge aroma. Sweet and fruity with medium body and cushiony caramally malt. Some butterscotch and lactic tartness. Low bitterness. Unconvincing.

Cask. Dark amber colour, not much head. Perfume and fruity hops in the aroma along with some hints of dark berries. A very nice flavour of spices, caramel malts and sweater fruity hops. Really nice flavour. Spice and fruity aftertaste.

Cask conditioned at Harbury Beer Fest ’07. Chestnut colour with thin white head. Smooth chocolate malt beer, almost a strong mild. Some blackcurrant fruitiness with a late hop and a little caramel.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. Judging from the two I tried there’s a bit of a theme to these Allendale beers. Quite dark coloured for a bitter. A mix of US and UK hop varieties. Malty backbone but rather more aromatic hop and bitterness than expected. This one has some caramel but, again, a quite pronounced, citric hop hit. Plenty of body and character. Quite impressed.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Reading BF. An amber coloured beer with a slight hop aroma. The taste has better hops with the orange notes coming through. Not bad but doesn’t drink its strength or its description!

Bottle from a farmshop near Amble, Northumberland, not BC. Raspberry jelly red swirled with a slender white lid. Sweet sweet toffeeish doppelbock aroma with a wring of old sock, jellied red fruit, marzipan, Schlenkerla and oily hop. Chocolate coated caramel, walnut, waxy prune, malt loaf and leather touches. Robust finish with earthy hops and malt, roast and a dab of rauch. Tasty stuff, mingling brown ale and deep doppelbock maltiness.
