COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
A beautiful red coloured, full bodied beer taking its name from the famous wolf of Allendale. With bitterness coming from Challenger hops and a fruity blackcurrant aroma coming from Willamette hops. At 5.5% abv. this really is beer with bite!

Cask at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury. Hazy copper/mahogany colour. Fudge aroma. Sweet and fruity with medium body and cushiony caramally malt. Some butterscotch and lactic tartness. Low bitterness. Unconvincing.

500 ml bottle, from The Cheese & Wine Shop, Darlington. Copper colour, large to moderate off-white head. Strong and pleasant aroma of malts, caramel, raisins, dark dried fruits, blackcurrants, a hint of tobacco. Fruity flavour, notes of raisins and blackcurrants, also notes of caramel malts, but the beer is not too sweet. Moderate but sufficient hops in the finish. Very drinkable.

cask at Guildford Arms in Edinburgh - Pours dark amber and smells of caramel malt with a little hops. The flavor is mainly sweet malt with a bit of a hops bite. It’s medium bodied and has light bitterness in the finish. This brew is more fully flavored than the regular bitters.

Bottle from a farmshop near Amble, Northumberland, not BC. Raspberry jelly red swirled with a slender white lid. Sweet sweet toffeeish doppelbock aroma with a wring of old sock, jellied red fruit, marzipan, Schlenkerla and oily hop. Chocolate coated caramel, walnut, waxy prune, malt loaf and leather touches. Robust finish with earthy hops and malt, roast and a dab of rauch. Tasty stuff, mingling brown ale and deep doppelbock maltiness.

Cask pint in Newcastle area. Aroma of standard dark pint, deep brown/black pour and a tiny 1cm cream head. Taste is distinct coffee, slight malt and moderate bitter. Good example of an english pint.
