Two great breweries ... One great beer.

Brewed with New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops and Manuka wood smoke; and Alberta malts, Ryan’s Honey and Saskatoon berries.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted smoked malt and dark fruit aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Collabrewation, hahaha, oh canada.. Very dark brown red color, near black. Light comes through around the edges; not opaque. Thin khaki head, some splotches and dots of lace. Some wood smoke in the nose, dark fruit. Good moderate roast in the flavor, moderate bitterness, light sweet. Smooth, lightly soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Man, even the wood is NZ? Nice touch. Medium to bigger body. Bigger flavor for the lighter 5.6% ABV. Better than expected, this porter was.

22 oz bottle shared with the group via kbudd19. Pours a clear brown color with a small off white head. The aroma has some smoke, berries, a sweet note and some earth. If there is roasted malt I am missing it. The flavor is nothing like the nose. I get an herbal tea character, some honey and a hint of tobacco. Dry. This is strange, but has quite a bit of character.

Pours a clear dark brown with a fluffy light brown head that leaves lots of lace. Aroma of smoke, ash, tobacco, fruity esters and sweet honey. Taste is ashy cigarettes, cocoa, roasted malts, a nice dry finish and taste of the nelson hops really comes out on the finish. Excellent randomness porter.

650ml bomber from Coop. 5.6%. Preface- I love AK, 8Wired, Nelson Sauvin Hops, and smoked style beers. This however was a train wreck for me. Dark pour with a bubbly head that fades quickly. Aroma is dusty, ashy campfire and berry esters. Palate is dominated by an ashy, funky smokiness that doesn’t allow any of the toasted malt character shine. Nelson Sauvin hops are lost in this torrential downpour of wood smoke brewjuice.

Thin, quick dissipating beige head atop a deep brown body. Nose of roasted nuts. Flavour is sweet, toasted almonds, raisins, ash and coal. Thin, burnt finish. Okay.

Bottle, shared with my father-in-law. Dark brown with a long lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is husky dark malts, light smoke, with hints of tangy fruit. The palate opens with a surprising nuttiness, like Brazil nuts, followed by dusty cocoa, light smoke, and earthy clay. There is a sweetness here too, but not identifiable as fruit or honey definitively for me. The finish is very dry, with a peanut skin bitterness. Interesting and very drinkable; one that I kept thinking about until the last swallow.

Dark brown - little bit of light foam. Aromas of toast, coffee, gentle smoke. A little bit more smoke as you taste it, but it’s very gentle. Berries are noticeable. Berries and smoke provide pleasant interest to a plain porter. A bit light bodied. Even sessionable.

Cola brown complete with a tall rocky cap. Aroma and taste are similar, thin cold coffee, hints of ash, maybe vanilla. Better than I thought it would be. Sweetness builds, bitterness lingers. Keep hitting notes of chocolate orange. Good enough but I’ll forget about it by tomorrow.

650 ml bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Nose is unique for a porter. There is malt, smoke, and berry. Taste is also very unique. This beer finished long on the palate and finished with a decidedly smokey flavour. Also subtle sweet notes. An interesting beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
