650ml bottle. Thin head on dark beer with nice highlights around the edge of the glass. Moderate nice smoked malt scent. Sweetishg brown malt with a restrained smokiness around the edges of the palate. Enjoyable brown ale maltiness, light smoke and gentle sweetness make for an excellent pub pint.

Very well done Alley Kat. Lots of magical smoke in the nose...hints of oyster, port and dry forest. Taste is consistent and the smoke not overpowering. Dry malt and some tobacco lay claim. Finish ups the tempo with some sweetness but remains smokey. Only suggestion here would have been slightly up the ABV.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 patricks110 (901) - Alberta, CANADA - APR 18, 2010
A really good beer. Pour is dark brown, almost pure black. Thin tan head. Aroma f subtle smoke, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Taste is somewhat smokey- pretty subtle. Very smooth, full bodied. Nice malt character. Overall, a solid smoked porter.

650ml brown bottle. Dark brown in colour, small creamy tan head. Leaves some nice splotchy lacing. Aroma has a lightly smokey character, woody, ashy, some chocolate. Flavour is of chocolate malts, dark coffee, not much smoke coming out. Suggestion of bitterness from roasted malt. Dry finish with a distant sweetish smokiness. Soft and creamy texture, mild to medium carbonation level. Better than the last smoked porter they did a few years ago. Smoke comes out more in the aroma than flavour, would have liked a smokier taste. Still, liked this quite a bit.

Bottle… Pours clear and dark and sits black in my glass with tinges of dirty orange around the edges when held to bright light. Small, creamy, mushroom-colored head and decent retention. The bouquet is all about mocha – mostly chocolate – and faint smoke. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Leans on the sweet side of balance and provides mild components of chocolate and coffee layered upon suggestions of cola and smoke. Lightly sweet, roasted, grainy finish. Bottle courtesy of fata2683!

650mL bottle poured amber-brown color with big off-white head settling quickly to a nice lacing. Aromas of wood and smoke. Taste is lightly smoky with some malty sweetness. Medium bodied beer with nice carbonation. Very well done Alley Kat.

Deep black/brown pour with a tight white head. The aroma is lightly cocoaish. Soft and a little bit chewy. A touch of sweet cocoa and coffee along with some toasted malt. Malted milk, toast and sweetness. A kiss of light smoke on the back of the palate. Almost a leathery kind of dryness.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 thb (481) - Alberta, CANADA - APR 6, 2010
Surprisingly little smell of smoke - smells like a good simple malty porter. Pours a deep, deep, reddish brown with a nice luxurious, lingering head with solid lacing. The smoke is really subtle - I might not have picked it out if I didn’t know it was there. Smoky or not though, it’s pretty delicious. It’s got the nice sweet malty goodness of a good porter, with a pleasantly bitter finish. The mouthfeel was a little thin and watery for me. Nice soft carbonation. Also remarkably easy to drink.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 JoeZasada (255) - Beaumont, Alberta, CANADA - APR 17, 2010
Bomber bottle. Pours a very dark brown/red with a moderate, lasting tan head. Aroma of smoke, like burnt cinnamon, and malt. Tastes of malt, like a caramel, with a bit of that smoked malt taste, mildly sweet. Finishes with wood-like smoke flavour. Overall a bit mild, but definite flavour. This one is very good; it would make a good regular beer. A lot more interesting than a regular brown ale, but not too crazy... anyone who likes beer would like this one.

[3690-20110416] 650mL bottle. Sweet raisin roast malt aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head. Roasted raisin malt flavour hints at light strawberry fruit grains. Medium body. Pretty good, drinkable. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4
