Brown ales are the all purpose beers for dark ale lovers. Our Amber is no exception.

Okay - weíre going to say it: beer isnít always about the hops. Ales like our Amber are more about getting a sweet, roasty and malty taste. This is London-style brew is no exception. Dark with a caramel aroma, the Alley Kat Amber focuses on the subtle tastes in every sip. ďA beautifully balanced brown ale with notes of chocolate, raisin, and allspiceĒ Ė Stephen Beaumontís The Great Canadian Beer Guide

The major thing to note for Amber ale is the emphasis on the malt. That doesnít mean we donít use any hops though. We brew Amber with Goldings to add a light floral hoppy note to the taste. 12.8į

On tap at Beer Brothers. Pours clear brown, average head, good lacing. Smells and tastes more like a mild chocolate porter. Toffee, chocolate dominate. Nice beer but more than a brown ale in flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to glass Bought for a BBQ but this got left over. Time to rate it. Sweet apply, malt initially, followed by some dark molasses, toast, and chestnut. The colour is a dark reddish amber and itís got a thin mottled and creamy head. Taste is very malty, with a touch of dark chocolate, grain, and something bittersweet, perhaps molasses. Thereís a touch of bitterness and skunk at the end, but overall, not bad.

Aroma is a roastiness with some nut notes. Taste is a well balanced malt / hop character. Sweet malts finish smoothly and the hops are not too over powering. Appearance is aclear amber with a pearl head that retains fairly

Pours mahogany brown, aroma of caramel, roasted malts. Taste is alright, caramel, a bit sweet. Is ok, a bit chemical tasting, not the best of alley kat

341mL Bottle.Clear amber pour, can gives it a larger than average head. Aroma is nutty, almond, hazelnut, vanilla, roasted malts. Taste is light and sweet, with a clean mouthfeel that is quite refreshing.

Crappiest beer Iíve had from Alley Kat. It tastes strongly of some sort of artificial caramel flavour, always manages to seem flat, and is beyond bland. Stick to Charlie Flint or Blue Moon if youíre at the pub.

341ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger of off-white head that leaves hardly any lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and chocolate with some herbal notes. Taste is a caramel and chocolate sweetness with a herbal bitterness in the finish. A decent amber ale, but nothing memorable.

341mL bottle poured light brown into glass with off-white head and small lacing. Aroma is caramel and some floral hops. Taste is lightly sweet caramel and a mild bitter hoppiness in the finish. Light carbonation and medium body, this beer is a fine example of the style.
