3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DuffMan (5190) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, - APR 16, 2008Hazy orange amber, thick vanilla head. Very big resinous hop aroma, a hint of underlying sweet malt (you can smell the freshness here!). Woody resinous hop character dominates, although is well supported by underlying sweet soft maltiness. Very bitter finish. Solid.

341mL bottle poured a hazy amber color with moderate off-white head and thin lacing. Aroma is earthy and hoppy. Taste is of hops and malt. Nicely balanced brew with adequate carbonation and body. This is one of the better IPA’s that I have tried. Very tantalizing.

Bottled. An amber beer with a bit of sediment floating around under an orangey head. The aroma has notes of over ripe fruits, hops, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel and hops, as well as lighter notes of over ripe fruits. Thanks fiulijn for sharing.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 gramity (1054) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - APR 6, 2011
Pint from cask night hosted by The Next Act. Beer arrived with a one to two finger white head. The head seemed to be lightly tinted green presumably from hoppy goodness. The beer was a dark amber with a bit of haze.
The aroma was all hops. There was relatively little malt backbone detectable but the hops were very pleasant. It is hopped with cascade and centennial up front and later with amarillo. The aroma is floral and citrusy. Not as much grapefruit in the citrus as I was expecting.
The taste is quite citrusy with lots of grapefruit and floral notes. You can taste the diversity in the hops. Good, bitter finish.
This pint was hard to put down but I still can’t shake the feeling that something is just missing. I think it is the relative fortitude of the underlying beer this DIPA was built on. I’d definitely buy the beer if I saw it in stores though.

Strong citrus - lime and orange with some notes of ammonia in the nose. Hazy ruby-copper coloured body is topped by a low off white head that recedes to a partial cover with some nice lacing. Flavour is quite sweet with strong but shortlived bitterness. Orange and lime are quite apparent as are some grassy and vegetal notes. Grainy in the aftertaste. Very dry medium body with strong pointy carbonation. Snifter. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Kensington Wine Market in Calgary in October 2010.

A really nice DIPA. Aroma is citrus hops, slight spiciness, with a moderate malty sweetness to balance out the nose. Flavour is mostly hoppy with a little lemon kick. Alcohol is mostly unnoticeable. Oily mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty good double IPA.

***review from May 8, 2008***
Poured out a dark amber beer with a good sized white cap, good retention and light lacing. The aroma is grapefruity, apricot and herbal that seems to lean on a hint of mint and has a decent floral fragrance. Background malts. The taste isn’t that bad but it is below the average american styled IIPA’s and I do notice the alcohol a bit too much, but this is not a bad thing, it’s just a direct comparison to others. Grapefruit, herbal hops, something odd that I can’t nail down, weak malts that do the job but could have more of a backbone. Solid bitterness. Nice swish gives a lively but soft mouth feel. Just got a bit of extra sweet candy (first time I really noticed it was right near the emptying of the glass. Fairly lengthy herbal and candy (weaker of the two) bitter aftertaste. Drinks very well when on the warm side! A decent representation of an IIPA but unfortunately it does not match up against others. That being said, I may get some more as it is easy to drink, it’s only 7.8% and it is a local product. Support your local breweries!
