pintbypint (877), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Mar 29, 2008 341ml brown bottle. Coppery orangey coloured beer with an off white head that starts big but all butvanishes half way through the glass. Aroma is sweet malt with a light toffeeish note. Flavour is also malty with caramel and bready notes. Light leafy note from the hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Good drinkability.
DuffMan (1868), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 27, 2008 Dark copper brown, leaning more toward brown. Clear, decent off-white foamy head. Very malty aroma-- breadcrusts and brown sugar... YUM! Much more malty than the Howe Sound brown ale we just finished. Very low bitterness. This is a delicious ale, whether you want to call it red or brown, but I wouldn’t personally call it an amber. Incidentally, I got no spice in this whatsoever, but I think that’s a good thing. This beer shines in its simplicity and sound craftsmanship. I’m glad I bought a 6-pack! JoeZasada (81), Beaumont, Alberta, Canada Mar 6, 2008 Thick head but dissipates quick.... copper colour, smoky aroma.... a light amber ale, but with a bitter hop taste, with a smoky maltiness. presario (2383), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 3, 2008 12oz bottle. Thick head. Copper colour. Minimal aroma, not sure if wood or vanilla is trying to rise up. Basic amber ale sipped with cinnamon hearts in the mouth. A bit of a Valentine’s surprise from Alley Kat and Sherbrooke. nafnikufesin (5), Canada does not count Feb 22, 2008 (Actually a red ale not an amber ale, but that wasn’t a choice)
This is a seasonal offering brewed by Alley Kat for Sherbrooke Liquor Store for Valentine’s Day.
First off, given Sherbrooke’s last two offerings, I had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, as a result, I was left a little disappointed.
Red color going flat quickly, slight sweet malt aroma, slight harsh hops noted to start, but these smooth out by mid-beer making for a drinkable beer, slightly above average.
