650ml bomber. Cleam amber pour, rocky white head, sticky lacing. Aroma is resinous, lots of pine, even some spruce. Sweet orange citrus and a little butter (diacetyl?) Mouth feel and carbonation are spot on. Finish is very bitter, and leaves a peppery resinous pine flavor. Decent ipa, not sure its a dipa.

Dried apricot, pine and a hearty dose of caramel. A touch of earthiness. Smooth, flowery, earthy, woody. Not overly bitter, but nice malt backbone. Enjoyable an not Over the top. Not tons of bitterness.

This one smells great—very fresh pine and citrus, but the taste is not quite as distinctive as the red or blue dragon brews. Still a really great beer.

Amber pour with a fairly thick white head. a more subtle aroma - citrus fruits balanced out with some caramel malting. Not getting 100+ IBU but I am getting a citrus fruit salad and a good caramel backbone fighting for my tongues attention. Slick mouthfeel. I liked it, but was expecting a bit more oomph.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 Original rating 11/25/11. Pours a golden yellow, clear beer, looks like a golden ale or lager. Decent head forms. No carb coming up. Smell is soapy, very very light hop spiciness and very, very faint caramel kind of malt, and of course some cheddar aroma. Taste has lots of bitterness, definitely can tell its 100 IBU. Some noticeable caramel, and a strong spicy character of the hop. The caramel moves in with it. The cheddar note is not too intense, but still muddles the beer. Like if you can imagine what something like cashew cheese would be like, that’s what is hidden here. Floral and spice, little but of wood, sort of grainy. The flavours are decent, but for a single hopped beer it’s not as cohesive as I’d expect. It still tastes like its missing something, though - but I guess that’s to be expected out of a single hop beer too, not a lack in the quality of brewing. Like if there was some citrus in here that would really help. Can’t taste the 7.5% at all. Its an ok beer.

Vertical Bacon Strips (1697) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 2, 2012
Poured out a clear light amber brew with a large frothy off white head that sticks pretty well and hangs around. Decent aroma but lacing depth. Candy sweet aroma that is similar to cotton candy without that typical cotton candy aroma if that makes sense - closer to a cherry version, unique light pine I think, tropical stuff, mango, lots of caramel sweetness, floral notes as well - the tropical aroma is the defining character. A hard bitterness hits my ’buds quickly but wavers in strength here and there, rrgf, stiff pine tingles my senses, peaches, all in a non beating strength, the bitterness has reared its tasty head again, caramel, light tang. Seems a bit more than medium bodied... hmm... semi-thick sweet finish with the standard bitterness. Pretty good beer and very drinkable. I’ll get another and put it up against a similar brew for curiosity. Nice beer.

Very flowery nose. Nice golden colour, but head disappears quickly. Flavour dominated by very flowery hops. Flavour lingers a long time. Malta a bit weak. Will be loved by hop heads.

Single bottle purchased on 12/15/2011 at Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, AB. Colour: A unique deep gold with minimal head. Nose: The hops are laced with honey and cherry. Some toffee stands alone. Candle wax also says hello. Taste: Medium sweet, medium bitter, light sour. Some bubble gum amongst piney hops. At 100 IBU, I thought this would pack more of a yummy bitter punch, but the high sweetness of it seems to cut into that punch and soften it up a bit too much.

Poured a gorgeous golden amber with some thick fluffy white head. Retention was decent and heavy on the lacing. Aroma was all grapefruit citrus for me and very appealing. Taste is citrus and grapefruit from the hops but a very evident malt backbone is present. Just the right touch of sweetness from the malts. Finish is bitter and delicious. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Bright orange gold, thick creamy cream-coloured crown that retains beautifully. Aroma is fresh fragrant tropical fruit-- papaya, melon, orange-- with underlying notes of golden syrup and wood. Sweet ripe tropical fruit flavours with a big bitter citrus oil finish. Medium to full bodied, oily mouthfeel. So fresh and tasty!
