Boutip (1815), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 25, 2007 Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a medium amber color ale with a small foamy head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of malt is weaker then expected and no peat malt could be detected which is what I usually look for into scotch ale. Taste is also weaker then expected with some malt with some very subtle dry fruits characteristics but not as much as I would have expected. Definitely weaker then I would have expected and not something I would go looking for again.
beerbuzzmontreal (2747), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 1, 2007 Pours a reddish brown color with a ring of light brown lace. Decent aroma and flavor of caramel and smoked malt with candied fruits. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. Interesting but the malt could be more round and rich. steview (784), Oceanside, California, USA Aug 2, 2007 sweet, thick and malty, caramel aroma; hazy brown pour, quiet, with little tan head and dark and hazy copper body with dark ruby-orange highlight; little carbonation, sweet and sticky, quite malty, with some citrus; you’re still not gonna lift my kilt with this, but it still ain’t bad! JoeZasada (93), Beaumont, Alberta, Canada Jul 23, 2007 A good scottish ale, good fuity carmel maliness. Low carbonation, pour it high to build a head... MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 12, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Fruity caramel maltiness and its peaty leanings benefit from the low carbonation to build a serene sipper of a Scotch Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin ring of foam skirts the hazy dark red.
-The sweet maltiness brings some chewy red beans into the mix.
-The body is lean and the large bubbles are sparse, forming a relaxed mouthfeel.
-Timid roasty dryness touches the back end.
-Alcohol is well positioned.
Bottle; Thx Mike!
