Olde Deuteronomy is a beer that is high in alcohol, full-bodied, and has a "chewy" maltiness. Because it improves with age, it is called a barley wine. Olde Deuteronomy is truly a beer to be shared with friends and should be sipped out of a brandy snifter. Each vintage will age and improve for several more years.
ABV varies from 10.2% to 11.5%. 26.4į

Bottle traded with TimE about 3/4 years ago. Thought Iíd age this a bit and my has it turned out well. Colour is murky reddish/orange, few bits in it, off white head which dissipates to nothing. Nose is musty grain, barley sugar boiled sweets, burnt sugar/caramel, citrousy blood oranges, bit of grapefruit peel, little yeast extract and slight oxidisation. Taste is musty grain, citrousy blood oranges, grapefruit rind, caramel, barley sugar. Really lovely blood orange character providing bitterness and then softer sugary notes complimenting it. Musty and soft, just how I like my barley wines.

341 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm, left over from a tasting. Thanks, Chris & Beau! Pours a clear burnt orange color with no head. But itís been open for a bit. Notes of tea, brown sugar, toast, caramel, earth, toffee, and some underlying bitterness. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a malty, rich, somewhat bitter and earthy mouthfeel. Now I need to try it fresh, because open for a while, I liked what was there. Iíll visit Edmonton for it someday.

11.2 or 12 oz bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a clear dark amber color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, an herbal hop character, fruit, some oxidation, though it says 2015, leans more toward the malty side.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Cincy crew; thanks DuffMan). 2015 vintage, 20th Anniversary Edition. Looks solid; a transparent brown with thin off-white head that quickly dissipates into thin lacing. Smells bittersweet with notes of toffee and oak. Tastes like it smells with a medium full-bodied mouthfeel. Unbalanced, but may settle down with some age.

Deep red brown body with a tan head. Sweet aroma, with caramel notes. Taste is clean with rich fruit and caramel notes and a hint of toasted nuts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The beer starts fresh but viscous. Easy to drink but deep and thick. Malt, dried fruits, intense. Viscous, smooth, sticky. Toffee, dried plums, moderate bitter, smooth and malt. Not too sweetish, but easy to drink. Nice but not as complex as it could be.

Iím not usually partial to this style, but this one is very nice. Very, very malty, and not boozy.

Not a Barley Wine fan but tried a small sample on tap. Sure it isnít a bad beer, just not my style.

Pours a cloudy amber with a small white head. Nice amount of carbonation. Aroma of fruity malts and hops with some citrus, plum and a whiff of alcohol. Flavour is quite bitter, a little strong on the alcohol but not too much. Nice balance of hops and sweet fruit and has a mild port or brandy taste. A little milder than some barley wines, itís quite nice.

Pours medium amber with a thin tan head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is brown sugar, dark boozy fruit, caramel and toffee, some bitter chocolate, earthy vinous notes. (6/10) Taste is moderate to strong sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body tending to the watery, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly bitter finish. (4/5) Meh. I dunno, barleywines just continue not to do it for me. I canít quite put my finger on what it is about this one, but thereís something in the flavour that puts me off. (12/20)
