3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2011 bottle at 10.3%, from Kensington Wine Market. It pours deep mahogany brown, with a thin yellow-white head. The nose is toffee, wood, varnish, raisin, caramel, spice, cinnamon bun and umami notes. The taste is wood, varnish, leather, spice, toffee, cinnamon bun, over-ripe fruit and booze, with a dry finish. Medium-full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Well balanced. A solid barley wine.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Clear bright mahogany pour with little head. Aroma of rich toffee, barley sugar and plums - very traditional barleywine aroma. Taste is rich, very sweet with some alcohol notes. Pretty intense beer, palate is very full bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty archetypical example of the style.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into snifter. Deep, clear, red, with almost no head. Plums, fruit and alcohol. Some of the malt comes through. Nicely complex, very smooth. A little boozy in the finish, but that’s a barleywine. This lived up to the hype. Good beer. 080712

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle… Clear, deep, dark, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Great retention. The nose suggests vanilla, caramel and cotton candy with a splash of port. Full-bodied with a fatty mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Sweet toffee, cotton candy and a medicinal note up front; loads of bitterness on the backside. Finishes medicinal and mostly sweet. Kudos to jyoungsbcp for sharing his bottle of this!

341ml bottle, 2009 vintage. Deep amber/red pour with off-white head. Malty on the nose with some citrus fruit and bubblegum. Oddly fresh on the palate with lots of candied fruit and a lackluster finish. Thick but not overly sticky. Good stuff.

shazbot! first thing that comes to mind after tasting this. poured with a decent light tan head that vanished pretty quickly. leaves a skiff on the top. colour is a deep amber. smell boasts fruitiness, caramel and hops. once i tasted this, i was shell shocked. hahahaha. no seriously, i wasn't expecting the smoothness that it carries. can't taste the alcohol at all. nice and sweet malts. the hops don't jump out like you think they would after smelling it. great brew for the locals.
