Olde Deuteronomy is a beer that is high in alcohol, full-bodied, and has a "chewy" maltiness. Because it improves with age, it is called a barley wine. Olde Deuteronomy is truly a beer to be shared with friends and should be sipped out of a brandy snifter. Each vintage will age and improve for several more years.
ABV varies from 10.2% to 11.5%

In short: A fun well balanced uber-sweet and uber-hoppy barley wine. Very Good brew.
How: Bottle 341ml. Exact age unknown. Probably around 1 year of age.
The look: Partly cloudy copped body topped by a medium beige head with good retention
In long: Nose of barley candy and various hard candies over a ton of leafy hops. Taste is a pleasant clash of sugary malts and assertive hopping. Baked raisin pie, brown sugar, thick toffee, luscious caramel, canned pineapples, butter and more… And lets not forget the hops. This barley wine really is mega-hoppy. Not to compare it to a Bigfoot because the hop profile is totally different than that of the Bigfoot. However, just like the Bigfoot, the hopping almost steels the show. A ton of leafy and resinous hops totally overwhelmed the sweet malts in the sticky bitter finale. Body it very full and very well carbonated. A distant cousin of the better known Pike Old Bawdy Barley Wine that I also love a lot. This is my rating number 4001. Sorry about the first 4000 ratings, I was drunk.

Single bottle purchased from Kensington Wine Market sometime in April 2011...in Calgary, AB. Colour: Reddish brown with minimal head on pour. Swirlingtirs up alot of head. Nose: Lots of sweet ripe fruit...like cherries and mushy raspberries. Sea air and red liqourice. Taste: Medium sweet, medium-light bitter, medium sour. Red currents, amaretto, and more liquorice to finish things of.

Dark reddish amber pour with no head. Taste is very sweet with brown sugar and huge maltiness. Long lasting finish with bitter hops coming through. Alcohol burn that diminishes as it warms up. Very good stuff.

Amber or ruby in colour. Tan head gone fast. Thin cap ring sticks around edges. No visible carbonation. Dark fruits, dark brown sugar, mild alcohol and mild hop. For some reason I also get a pear note which is quite interesting. Smells good. Dark fruit, candi sugar sweetness that doesn’t cloy. Finishes sweet. Apple, pear and dark breadiness come through too. Low carbonation. Thick and chewy. Full bodied, almost too full.

Sweet aroma with a soft alcohol smell, pours a dark amber colour with a small head. Medium sweet dessert like taste with a very light bitterness. Full bodied with sticky texture, soft carbonation and long finish. Overall this beer is very drinkable and is a definite buy if you see it on the shelf.

341ml bottle, 2009 edition at 11% abv, courtesy of savvy1982. thanks, kyle! pours a dark, reddish amber with a thin white head and a lasting rign of lace. aroma is very nice with sweet, sugary malts, cotton candy, orange jellied candy slices, and sweet toffee with a hint of pine resin. flavor is damn nice as well, definitely on the sweeter side of things, with sweet toffee, candied pineapple, orange sherbert, and grassy hops backed by hints of grass, candy corns, and vanilla. palate is full bodied with smooth, light carbonation and a lingering, warming finish. overall, a pretty tasty, sweet barleywine.

341 ml bottle shared by goldtwins. 2008 vintage. Pours a murky brown with a light brown head. The aroma is super sweet malt, almost as though the beer wasn’t fully fermented. The flavor is malty, just not as sweet as the aroma suggests. Very mild bitterness at the finish with a bit of alcohol lingering in the aftertaste.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Savvy1982. Thanks. Pours red and rust orange with a small off-whit head that soon fades to a fine ring. The aroma is moderate in strength with sherry, oranges and a whiff of alcohol. Th flavor is rich with sherry, oranges, almonds and biter walnuts. The palate is a syrupy with soft carbonation. Finishes long with lingering sherry. Overall: Very good BW, much enjoyed.

12 oz bottle 2008 vintage. Pours a slightly hazed medium amber with a fizzy sod like head. Aroma is sharp caramel malts, some nutty toast and munich malts, warm biscuit, fruity esters, and still a touch of citrus hops left. Sweet malty flavor with light fruits peach and plum, toast, bready malts, toffee, caramel, light molasses and a modest hoppy bitter finish- Ok but a bit one dimensional.

2009 (11%) bottle via a trade with savvy1982. Pours with a mostly clear bronze colored body and a decently large khaki head. Very nice lace. Aroma from a mile away is strong toffee, vanilla and a bit of fruity (banana) esters. On closer inspection add toffee, brown sugar, molasses, maple, raisins, burnt flan, and tongue depressors to the mix. Flavors of alcohol, light metal, some orange, raisins, toffee, vanilla, butterscotch, caramel. There is a light acidity from the barleywine, not sure where that is from. Light graininess (cereal like). Very long duration. Rich on the second taste. Pretty taste. Bitter throughout. Medium carbonation, smooth and silky mouthfeel. Weighted. The more I drink the better it gets. Pretty well done!
