3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chugalug (29) - Calgary, - MAR 11, 2007
Deep dark colour. Lovely aroma--lovely smoke flavour--strong, but not overwhelming. No sourness--different batch than the 2005, with much better balance.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (2159) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 20, 2011
500mL swingtop bottle poured dark brown with sparse beige head and very light lacing. Aroma is smoke and wood with a hint of cherry. Taste is smoky sweet at first with a light hoppy finish and more smoke. Light carbonation and lighter body detract from the score.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 brewgirlca (57) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 22, 2006
Bottled. Pours a deep tan head that lingers. Deep dark rich mahogany color pushing limits of style. Big smoky cherry blasts you in the face like sticking your head in a smoker. This does mask the malts a bit much. However, in the flavour the sweet caramel maltiness comes through and it ends dry from both the smoke and the dark malts. Cherry dominates the smoke profile. No sourness here, maybe it did not travel well. Excellent campfire beer or on a cool winters evening.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 joeycapps (1468) - Waterdown, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 1, 2006
Brown, opaque w/ frothy grey-brown foam. Sweet, burnt caramelized sugar aroma w/ light notes of smoke & instant coffee. Medium feel. Sweet, caramelized sugar flavour w/ some mildly tart acidic notes & a hint of burnt wood in the finish.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2007 Dark brown, tan head. Strong aromas of campfire and coffee. Smoke character predominates, but there are dark malts present too. Fairly light in the body, woody finish. Delicious!
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 GregClow (2664) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 12, 2005
Sample at DougShoemaker’s 2005 December gathering - bottle courtesy of presario via mr_kimchee. Dark brown cola-like appearance. Aroma is quite smoky, and very appealing - definately the highlight of this beer. Body is thin and lifeless. Flavour holds the expected smokiness, but also has a sourness that might have been intentional, but it really turned me off. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this one.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DougShoemaker (3149) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 10, 2005
Aroma of sweeted coffee and chocolate. Dark brown wearing a small toffee head. Taste is sour/sweet, black cherries. Tart in a good way, sweet and also sour, odd for a smoked beer? Interesting. Thanks mr_kimchee.
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 tupalev (2727) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 8, 2005
Bottle at ’December at DougShoemaker’s 2005’ -- courtesy of mr_kimchee. Strong artificial smoke aroma, with some black licorice thrown in. Sour porter taste mixed with artificial smoke - not good. Is it supposed to be this sour? I didn’t like this at all.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 blankboy (4434) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 8, 2005
Bottle at ’December at DougShoemaker’s 2005’ -- courtesy of mr_kimchee. Pours a clear dark brown with a spare light-brown head. Interesting smoky aroma, quite unique for a Porter -- really nice. The flavour is a different matter though, it’s very watery and dissapointing. It’s still somewhat smoky but also has a unpleasant sourness to it. Not recommended.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 mds (2119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 6, 2005
bottle. opaque brown-caramel coloured body with a small tan head. aroma is very nice - interesting butterscotch and toasty smoke peatiness. flavour is somewhat strange and thin. some roastiness but the sourness dominates and doesn’t bode well for this beer.
