COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first brew in the Big Bottle Series: Three Bears Oatmeal Stout. It’s dark, it’s flavourful, and it’ll stick to your ribs, this brew is better than Grandma’s recipe.

Bottle. Pours medium black, medium light tan head, decent lacing, if spotty. Nose is oats, light roast, some milk chocolate. Flavours of cooked oats, medium roast, some creosote. Decent.

Delicious mix of sweet caramel and bready malt along with a spicy, only slightly bitter hopping. Very comparable to Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.

This is a smooth stout. Chocolately, coffee notes, but the most notable characteristic is the smooth frothiness. Not a ton of flavour, but a nice stout, nonetheless.

A very good beer for those lucky enough to be able to get Alley Kat products. Positioned as a slightly heartier stout, with more body than a Guiness style, more similar to an Imperial Stout. However, it does not come with the higher alcohol content. It is a stout, so there is less in the aroma - who cares about it. Pours with a decent enough head for a carbonated bottle, that is reasonably creamy. It is a great tasting beer that is better than the famous Canadian (Quebec) alternative-St.Ambroise. Full taste, and you’ll want a second. Great beer overall.

Initial strong vinegar aroma. Maybe this has gone. Black in colour with a good frothy head and lace. Slight roasted malt, sharp bitter finish. Earth chocolate finish. I’m sure its past, this beer is probably much better.

650mL bottle pours almost black with about an inch and a half of beige head settling to a fine lacing. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is moderately bitter with a long finish. Body is a little thin for a stout and carbonation is adequate. This stout would have earned higher marks with a little more substance in the body, but still a nice drinkable beer.

Impenetrable black with brown head. Aromas of roasted grains and dark chocolate. In the mouth, my immediate observation is it seems pretty thin. There’s a bit of a vegetable note in there that seems a little out of place. Tastes experimental, but its very much on the right track!

A vigorous pour into a glass mug produced a four finger bubbly brown head on a reddish black. Lots of clingy lacing. The head shrinks to a cap but sticks around. Smells of roasted malts. Some caramel. Sweetish. Tons of toasted malt flavours up front. Smooth. A bit of an astringent hop twist at the finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Smooth drinking oatmeal stout. Rounding out the edges, this is rich malty without getting to the edges of say St. Ambroise. This can be popular. A bit aggressive on the carbonation, still very good drinkability. Dark brown with a litle lasting white head. Thanks Boney.

Bottle from Duffman. Thanks!! Pours black with no lasting head. Aromas of raisin, maple and mild alcohol. Maybe some oatmeal but I don’t think so. Way too sweet of an aroma. Flavor is sticky sweet with notes of bitter sweet fruits. No coffee, maple, oatmeal. A slight bitter aftertaste, more sour than anything. Go Blackhawks!

Single bottle purchased from Willow Park Wine & Spirits sometime in March, 2011. Colour: someone else stated that this was "jet black" and they were spot on. Head is nearing dark brown and medium height. Nose: Coffee, maple, bacon, pipe tobbaco, soy sauce, and of course oatmeal (but much more distant than expected). Taste: Medium-low sweet, medium-low bitter, low sour. Rich beechwood, maple, brown sugar, 90% cocoa, again bacon. Finish is very long and becomes fruit-sweet long after. Very satisfying stuff!
