stegosaurus (1883), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2008 Bottle Sampled. Pours a dark copper with a good size beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, toasted malts, and fruit. The flavor is sweet caramel, fruit, some toasted malts, wheat, and a slight tart finish. Nice body, just ok for me.
Dickinsonbeer (2480), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 1, 2008 .5 liter bottle from stateline. Pours a rediculously chunky hazy deep amber almost brown (I swirled it to get some sediment but it was still rediculously chunky- head at first looked cool but diminishes over time to a thin head. Aroma is oxidized with lots of soy and banana. Flavor is surprisingly not oxidized - nice sweet caramel and banana flavors- smooth and just a bit of sherry ox in the end. Meh- probably too old to be any good, but not horrible. First time I have seen it in the states so I figured it woudl be fresh. oh well. On second thought- it appears as though a few have gotten this from stateline over a year ago- this is probalby real old. meh. CaptainCougar (4601), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 19, 2007 Pours a hazy dark copper with a frothy, wispy-lacing, light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramely malt has some mild bready German yeast. Body starts with about average thickness some doughy caramel malt and a touch of milk chocolate toward the finish. Also has a touch of tartness throughout. Otherwise, a decent dunkelweizen. Maria (3816), Thisted, Denmark Sep 5, 2007 Murky brown with a nice, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of clove and wheat and the flavour is sweetish with the same notes. The overall impression is smooth and somewhat watery. Thank you Masn/g2b.dk.
EithCubes (1756), Indiana, USA Aug 17, 2007 As Allgäuer Dunkles Hefeweizen. Bottle. Dark caramel malt aroma with yeast and a touch of lemon. Murky amber brown body with a huge rocky tanned, lacing head. Spicy yeasty taste, pleasantly sharp crisp feel with citric attack notes and some wheaten fullness. Touch of peripheral water leads to an overall medium body, but the effervescent more than adequately compensates. Aftertaste is dry and wheaty with very faint acidity and a light dusty coating. Avoids a lot of the sloshing muddledness of most Dunkelweizen, but also some of the flavor. A very drinkable, fun brew, one to call your tongue to attention.
