2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Crash (507) - Macomb, USA - SEP 16, 2003
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2004 Smelled like toast and had a cloudy appearance with no head; overall dark appearance. It had a sour taste with a dry finish. This is something I would expect to get if I finished all of my dinner.

500ml swingtop bottle poured almost black in color with a finger of light tan head leaving some nice lacing on side of glass. Aroma is roasted malts and some chocolate and hops. Taste is malty sweetness with a hint of chocolate and a earthy hoppy bitter finish. This is one fine doppelbock which is not as sweet as some of the others, more balanced between malt and hops and I find this enjoyable.

Bottle looks simple, but good. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black, nice head. Starts strong and malty, notes of chocolate and caramel, modest bitter, some fruity notes of plum. Finish not as strong as the beginning, could be a bit sweeter. Still a great doppelbock!
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - MAY 17, 2011
Bottle from Maruhn, Darmstadt Beautiful dark amber color, with red shades; generous creamy head. I had more expectations for this beer; indeed the aroma is very simple, some caramel; the body strength is good, but only when the beer warms a bit; quite strong caramel flavor, sweetish. Correct bitterness; the final is also a bit nutty. Easy.

Swing top bottle. Dark brown color. Malty bready aroma and flavor with roast and ash. Medium to full bodied. Hints of pear and plums. Powerful bock with a long roasty finish.

Pours dark red with a khaki head. The aroma has molasses, cherries, bread and plum. The flavor has spicy anise, molassses, licorice, cinnamon, plum, raisins and a touch of cough syrup. Nice full body. Good one.

Another great doppelbock I tried on easter last year. It is rich and malty and easy to drink.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 scottw86 (900) - Maryland, USA - FEB 1, 2011
Poured a dark reddish brown with a foamy off-white stable head. Aroma has some slightly sweet fruity notes with apples and cherries. Some banana as well. Also caramel malt aromas. Taste has quite a bit of caramel flavor with some good fruitiness. Slightly too much carbonation. Lots of dark fruits and some bitter hops in the finish. A little more sweetness would have been nice, the balance is a bit off. Overall it’s very flavorful and full like a doppelbock should be, although the alcohol isn’t too noticeable.
