3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
My first experience with the barrel ages beers at Almanac and a great way to start. Deep black with a creamy head. Wonderful bourbon aromas mate well with the roasted malts. Chocolate and dark fruit sweetness is balanced by the bourbon and alcohol. Finishes with slight fruit and licorice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with my wife.
Typical imperial stout appearance. Dark brown, almost black. Thin, beige collar. The aroma is chocolaty with just a hint of bourbon. Lots of chocolate in the flavor with a touch of bourbon, vanilla, oak. Smooth and velvety on the palate with moderately low carbonation. Mild alcohol heat in the finish. Overall, a decent brew but middle of the pack in a highly competitive style.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep brown, slightly translucent. Terrific nose of well integrated barrel characteristics, roasted malts, dried red fruits. A bit thin on the palate. Delicious if not complex. GABF 2013.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle split with mBROsmer. Pours a deep brown, thin tan head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruits, a bit of belgian yeast spiciness. Taste is bitter chocolate, bourbony vanilla, dark fruit, spice, light espresso light booze burn. A bit manic. Feel like it would definitely be best paired with some food and not just on its own.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2013 Bottle: thanks, Jeff! Pours dense and nearly black with a small, tan film that’s barely large enough to even be called a head. Aroma is musky, deep cocoa beans, lots of woody oak, and only a mild bit of bourbon. Caramel, light brown sugar, and back-end plums and dates... Pretty sweet aroma with lots of wood. The taste is much more bourbon heavy... it’s a sharp and abrasive booziness, almost like straight Jack Daniels dropped in. Lighter milk chocolate, molasses, nuts, and a woody, polished finish. Not bad, but pretty harsh as it is. Could use some time to mellow out and synthesize better with the booze.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had tailgating during the awesome UGA/LSU game. Smell is a bit of booze, dark chocolate, dark aged fruit, bit of faint bourbon. Taste is mild bourbon as the 50% aged part is mellow enough to meld with the rest. More chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, sweetness. Pretty damn good.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a burnt umber color with a two finger khaki foam. The nose is a bit strange with big bourbon, american cheese, roast chocolate, wet campfire wood... The palate is a bit thin and unbalanced with a hint of a good beer in the midpalate but body is thin, boozy heavy char barrel notes and a watery lingering dirty composted finish. More things to dislike than to like...
