COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This oak-aged ale is our love letter to bourbon barrels. Barrel Noir is a sumptuous, inky ale that celebrates the velvety texture and subtle heat that only Kentucky charred oak can impart. Born from a blend of American imperial stout and Belgian-inspired dark ale aged in bourbon barrels, this rich brew can be paired with braised beef dishes and dark chocolates. Enjoyed best in front of a warm fireplace.

So dark the room light could not penetrate it. The chocolate tarty fruity smell is a perfect combination. The smell transitions to taste almost perfectly. The thick rich mouth feel rinses softly with the tart finish, but still leaving a light lasting deliciousness behind.

Bottle. Tan head, dark dark brown color. Aroma is apple, raisin, and roasted malts. Thick creamy and oily body, long bitter and sweet finish with the bitter oil left on your tongue. Very enjoyable and nice ale, surprisingly sweet but really nicely balanced. I am very impressed with this beer.

Absolutely beautiful and complex stout-centric hybrid from start to finish. Pours essentially black with an off-white head. Dark fruit aroma, with hints of bourbon. Taste is a solid chocolate and coffee base. But there are layers of flavor. Dark fruit. Some spice. Bourbon on the top. Everything lingers in a melodic symphony. I have one more bottle, and this is the first beer I am really looking forward to aging. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375ml bottle, pours black with lacing. Malty chocolate nose with some bourbon in the background. Smooth and silky chocolate with well blended sweet malts, some vanilla in the background. Hides the alcohol. Nice finish with the flavors hanging in there. Very Good!

From notes, consumed on 7/29/2013. 375 ml bottle into a Belgian snifter. Black with a finger of tan head, great lacing. Aromas of coffee, roast, chocolate, slight bourbon. Tastes of medium bourbon, caramel, dark chocolate, roast. Medium-full body with a dry and warm finish.

Pours a very dark but translucent brown with a fine two finger light brown head with good retention and massive lacing. The color is closer to a dark strong ale than a imperial stout, perhaps reflecting the blending. Excellent bourbon aroma with dark toasted malt, chocolate, maybe a bit of cherry, but that might be the bourbon esters. Very interesting flavor of dark toasted malt blended with sweet nuts, dark and light fruit an vanilla. Bourbon infuses everything but is not dominant. There is a lot going on here, with fleeting flavors that I canít put my finger on. Yet everything is melded nicely. Warming with a hint of the high ABV, but there is too much to favor to dwell on it. Medium bodied; a bit thinner than Iíd expect from something this complex and high ABV. This is an amazing beer that defies categories; itís not really an Imperial stout, but closer in spirit to a strong ale with stout and Belgian influences. Iím liking this a lot. I just found out that Almanac will be available in my area now and I will getting more of this and trying their other offerings. Excellent.
