COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelion’s single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Río Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Río Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lover’s beer through and through.

12oz bottle. Very dark pour with some tan head. The nose is the best part, milk chocolate with some smoke in the background. The taste is more bitter chocolate with a dry finish. Overall this is pretty simple, not much else to say. Can’t find any bourbon or vanilla.

(Aug. 2013, bottle from City Beer, SF) Pitch black with brown big bubbly head. Aroma is light and slightly tart, chocolate and weak vanilla. Taste is classic porter, light and fruity with toasted malts and chocolate (and lots of it) leaving behind a mild bitterness. Pleasant.

Sampled in a four pack. A nice mild carbonation high malts brew. Roasted nicely with a good chocolate palate.

Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a nice java head. Nose is mocha, coffee with rich chocolate and vanilla notes. Taste is bursting with chocolate, not overwhelmingly sweet, and is light enough where it drinks rather easily. Finishes with the same chocolate, might be good over vanilla ice cream. Nice porter. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours black with a brown head and sweet roasty chocolate aroma. Taste is all milk chocolate, creamy mouthful with vanilla, lighter coffee, and roasted malt notes leading to a dry, chocolatly finish. Light, but flavorful and enjoyable, nice chocolate notes

Pours dark with a finger light fluffy tan head. Smell chocolate and a light, nutty, coffee roast. Taste is bitter, herbal, with a roasty and a nutty finish. Light to medium bodied. Good.

Received in a trade from Bytemesis and shared at Kenny’s tasting. Somehow I got much more coffee than chocolate in this. There was also some rich malt notes with light smoke and some vanilla. A fun beer.

12 oz bottle poured into my Dogfish Head snifter. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a thick fluffy khaki head that leave great lacing. Smells of chocolate, caramel amd roasted malt. Tastes of the same things in the smell with the chocolate being the most noticable. Mouthfeel is creamy light and oily with light carbonation and a dry finish. Pretty tasty chocolate beer. not as good as Southern Tier’s but slighly better than Sam Adams chocolate bock. I would drink this all the time if it cost less.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dense dark brown color with a small tan head that recedes to a fine film. The aroma is light to medium in strength with roasted grains and some chocolates. The taste is decent, and complex, chocolates with dark bitter-sweet chocolates, milk chocolates and some bitter walnuts filling in the back end. The palate was just a bit lighter than i would have preferred, but it seemed to work well and the carbonation was soft. Finished medium in duration and showed some lingering bitter baking chocolate. Overall: A nice tasty chocolate ale.
