Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelion’s single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Río Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Río Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lover’s beer through and through.

Bottle offered @ gmellison. Dark brown appearance with a dark brown head. Aroma has a bit of smoke, roast, dark chocolate, mad cocoa powder. Soft mouth feel. Mild to moderate bitterness. Moderate sweetness. Lots of cocoa powder in the flavor. Easy to drink.

Pours a very dark brown with a small light brown head. Nice toasty malt on the nose, milk chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. Tasty roasted cocoa on the taste, caramel, milky coffee, and a nice citrus hop flavor. Well rounded but not spectacular.

Probably the best I've had if the almanac series, pretty good for a standard porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark walnut brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is fudgey with roasty undertones. Balanced chocolate and roast flavours, a touch of cinnamon, some vanilla sweetness. For a "regular" ABV stout, this packed some nice flavour.

12oz bottle . Mild sweet chocolate aroma with vanilla and malt. Taste was lacking the complexity I was hoping for. Low carbonation, malty with slight hop bitterness.

Somewhat of a mild beer, but it’s multi-dimensional. Subdued complexity? Noticeable elements of chocolate, pepper, smoke and vanilla, but nothing was overdone. Mild bitterness. Chocolate flavor was nice. Balanced. Pleasant flavors from start to finish.

Some chocolate, some malts, tastes a little bit like wort. Very sugary, very one note. Pretty standard porter, not much to write home about. I wish that awesome breweries such as Almanac would focus as much attention and technique to their regular line as they do to their specialty beers.

Dark brown. Smoky grilled aroma with coco. Sips with chocolate right up front. Full bodied and creamy palate. Nice balance with bitter espresso flavors and hop bitterness. Low carbonation bite, but enjoyable. Would a guesses this was a stout. Roasted and burnt chocolate flavors dominate. Nice brew.

pours black, with a nice dark caramel head. Milk chocolate on the nose. With hints of dark cocoa. Medium light bodied. Nice carbonation level. Tons of dark chocolate flavor, and bitter chocolate finish.

For the ABV this is an amazing beer. At 7 percent it woudl be perfect, but I resepct it at the low abv with a great chocolate flavor and perfect chocolate aroma. Nice head that fades to thin. Watery mouthfeel is the only bad part. Dark chocolate fade at the end. A very nice brew!
