COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Biere de Chocolat celebrates the long and lauded history of chocolate production in San Francisco. Our aim was to create a beer bursting with cocoa flavors and aromas, balancing sweet and savory to create a complex but quaffable chocolate brew. To accomplish this we partnered with Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco to create this rich brew brimming with chocolate character. Working with the unique flavors of Dandelion’s single-source beans, we created this decadent beer by layering in smoked and dark-roasted malts with citrusy Ivanhoe hops from Clearlake, CA. Finally, we added a blend of hand-roasted cocoa beans sourced from Madagascar and Río Caribe, Venezuela. The Madagascar beans add bright berry-cocoa flavors, while the Río Caribe adds dark chocolate and bourbon notes. A touch of vanilla rounds out the supporting flavors to create an eminently drinkable beer that is a chocolate lover’s beer through and through.

I thought this was pretty good. The bitterness is what stands out to me. Like an IPA. Creamy coffee and chocolate.

Four ounces of this was enough to convince me that at some point I need to order a few bottles. Unlike the experimental chocolate porter from Ballast Point this one stays much truer to style. The only thing that would keep me from ordering more would be the vast array of other choices.

Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base and mocha head look the part of a typical porter. Chocolate truffles, earthy malts, and coffee smell like a heavy flourless cake slice hanging in the air.

Flavor / Palate - Chocolate, mud, and cheesecake content with bitter coffee malts to see which set can last longer. Both idle in the throat for a few minutes before beginning to lighten. Ashy characteristics accent this slow departure along with a bit of spice. A nice depth makes this a memorable beer which proves Almanac is more than just a one trick sour producing pony.

Bottle at Olympen. Almost black with a beige head. Intense chocolate aroma and flavours, still quite dry. Nice touch of roasted malts and discreet hops. Nice one.

Pleasantly decent cocoa porter. Light roasted malts, delicate cocoa all the way, notes of vanilla, some hops. Sweetish with light bitter finish. Smooth and pleasant, but bit watery for me

Pours dark brown reddish, balsamy with cream brown top, vanishing fast, almost no lasing. Aroma - dominat chocolate-cocoa alike malts, a bit lactic as well, little cake-y. Taste is heavy bitter, mostly from darker malts, backgrounded with tiny sweetness. Some herbal hops notes in aftertaste. Light body, watery texture, dry, roasty finish. Weak porter for me, dominant chocolate flavored but so tiny in mouthfeel.

Aromātā diezgan viegls, un protams garšā arī. Sit carui bāzes iesalu, kurš nav ilgi raudzēts. Garšā un aromātā ir ļoooti kvalitativa tumšā šokolāde. Tas arī izglābj šo alu. Varetu dzert daudz. Augsta atzīme- jo stils ir parasts porteris.

12oz bottle pours almost opaque dark brown with light edges and 1 finger head. Nose is hershey syrup, vanilla, bakers chocolate. Taste is roasty cocoa, vanilla, subtle fruitiness, milk, cream. Finish is mildly bitter cocoa, coffee, and sweet vanilla extract. Not bad, but one was enough.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark black pour with big fizzy tan head, dissipates but laces well. Aroma brought notes of big cocoa powder, roast, some slight metallic notes into a bit of roast, cocoa bean as well. Taste is a mix of chocolate, big coffee, roast, slight earth, hints of metal in there, touch of grass, berry notes, finishing fairly bitter, dry. Interesting.
