COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison aged in wine barrels with plums, Cabernet, concord, and muscat grapes. Our first California Wild Ale is brewed with a blend of Cabernet and Muscat grapes from Alfieri Farms, Concord grapes from Hamada Farms, and plums from Twin Girls Farm – all located in the fertile San Joaquin valley. Aged for over a year in used wine barrels, this sour ale blends rich flavors of the 2011 Autumn harvest with farmhouse funk. Enjoy with aromatic Taleggio cheese and rich duck confit.

Pours a hazy golden with some floating particles and a thin white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of funk, strawberries and smelly feet. Taste is fruity (strawberries again) and moderately tart. Body is light to medium and carbonation moderate and mouthfeel a little tannic. Overall a solid fruited sour, one of Almanac’s best.

Bottle (375 ml) shared with the Quebec crew. From Vahe, thanks!

Appearance: Slightly hazy bright golden with a small white head and little lacing.

Aroma: Oh that’s interesting! Bright plums and grapes carried by brettanomyces along white wine, must, oak and light minerality.

Taste: Grapes are dominants here, but there’s still some bright plums with brettanomyces, moderate acidity, winey notes, oak and mineral notes.

Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. A bit winey mouthfeel. Dry and grape-y finish.

Overall: Superb fruited sour with a bright grape presence, good balance, nice complexity and a barrel treatment that isn’t overwhelming but definitely add to the beer. I loved it.

12 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma is heavy on the grapes, with lots of grape must, grape juice, and light notice of the wine barrels. Flavour is complex, wild and dry, with very dry grape must, grape skins, and peaches, accentuated beautifully by the wine barrels, making this dry and biting. Quite wild, though I don’t think there is any brett or other such critters in here. Excellent stuff.

Bottle @ home. Nice clear orangish pour with tiny lacings on top. Lots of green grapes, plums, some earthiness, apricot and some cereal. Finishes nice and dry.

"Crazy complex aroma of oak, funk, and various light fruit and grapes. Flavor pretty much matches the aroma, but then has an oddly absent finish. This is a higher quality sour than expected, though, and probably my favorite Almanac brew to date."

Bottle: Slightly hazy amber-copper hybrid with a quickly fading beige head. Aroma of musty grapes, mildly vinous oak, some dark plum, sweet raisin, & a touch of Brett-like funk. Taste is quite tart, but not exactly "sour" or puckering. Vinous grape notes, bordering on Merlot with deeper notes of rum cherry & blackcurrant. A touch of oaky tannins towards the finish, ending with a hint of musty hay, lightly acidic lemon, & grape skins. Dry, sharp mouth feel. Overall, a very nice sour ale.

Bottle thanks to Mike. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white. The aroma is strong grape, oak, funk. Thin mouthfeel with strong funk, grape, light tartness, easy to drink, very good.
