COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison aged in wine barrels with plums, Cabernet, concord, and muscat grapes. Our first California Wild Ale is brewed with a blend of Cabernet and Muscat grapes from Alfieri Farms, Concord grapes from Hamada Farms, and plums from Twin Girls Farm Ė all located in the fertile San Joaquin valley. Aged for over a year in used wine barrels, this sour ale blends rich flavors of the 2011 Autumn harvest with farmhouse funk. Enjoy with aromatic Taleggio cheese and rich duck confit.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2013 Bottle... Berliner Bash on the Bay 2013... Cloudy deeply-golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The bouquet delivers a melange of fruity, citrusy, acidic and lightly funky notes. This is so citrusy, it almost smells like orange juice. Light-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Fruity, citrusy, tart flavor. Not sour. Finishes crisp, tangy and bone-dry.

(375ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear medium gold, lasting fine white bubbles. nose of straight up funky as shit blue cheese, bits of cherry, mold, burns your nose as you smell. Taste of tart cherry, bleu cheese, very funky, cheesy even in the taste, I know others have liked it, I just donít really enjoy funky bleu cheese.

Smells great! Oaky wine barrels, grapes like no tomorrow, infectiously tasty yeast. Soured fruit and cabernet barrels; refined acetic profile. A damn tasty sour.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a paper thin white head. Aroma of funk, oak and grapes. Taste is tart sour grapes, funk and oak. Citrus in the finish. Really solid sour

Pours medium amber, a glowy brown-ish orange. Somewhat cloudy. The head is small to medium and slightly yellowed white. Fine foam. Most of the head dissipates after a minute, but thereís a nice blanket left over. Some lacing. The aroma has a very nice fruit flavor, and you can really pick out the grape varieties and plums. Itís juicy and sweet with a refined, musty fruit skin edge. The wine barrel adds a deeper fruit and oak flavor. Quite a nice combination. My only complaint is that there seems to be a touch of butter in there, though that will probably fade away with time and I seem to be more sensitive than most about such things. The taste starts with that sweet, juicy fruit (and the touch of butter) before it gets tarter and oakier. The finish is dry and packs a good tart bite. Medium sour. Lots of fruit. Very good after a hot day. Mouthfeel has prickly carbonation and some nice pucker. Mild to medium tannic from the barrel. Iíve liked both of these Farmerís Reserve sours quite a bit - significantly more than when I tried them on tap, for some reason. Itís great to see Almanac put out some better stuff, particularly sours, which seems like a natural area for them (and the sour version of their first beer was excellent). Iím definitely looking forward to the next round of Farmerís Reserves.

Bottle via trade. Poured a tea brown body under a smaller mostly white head. Aroma was tart and loaded with sour acidity, grapes, white wine, funk, medium bodied with average carbonation and a long lingering sour sour finish. Flavor is the same as the aroma, sour and funky with notes of white wine, grapes, lemon, oak. This is one great beer.

Poured a copper color from the bottle with aromas of plums, light wet wood, vineous notes, light nuts and some light sour barnyard. Flavors are the same, the grapes and wine are subtle so is the sourness. Insanly drinkable all day.

Pours amber with a thin white head. Sour/acidic, grapes, plum, oak, a little sweet at the finish. Not as intensely sour as some other sours which makes it very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A soft pour into my New Belgium Globe glass produces a one-finger thick pale tan colored head; a bit of lacing gets left on the sides of my glass as I take sips of this brew. The beer is a nice copper / light amber color that shows a clear, pale copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells lightly tart, a touch cheesy, but then distinctly of nuts; I canít quite put my finger on what kind of nuts, but it seems distinct enough to be its own variety, perhaps hazelnuts, or maybe lightly smoked almonds, but wait it really sort of reminds me of cheese flavored popcorn. Definite grape like aromatics, watered down buttery oaky red wine aromas, definite concord grapes (once you start to dig), bright berry notes at times, toasty / caramelized malt, and cracker like aromatics can all be found here, especially if you make an effort to dig around.

Tart and effervescent up front, the finish is also a nice mix of these and accentuates a nice, blush wine like flavor that has notes of berries, cranberries, perhaps a touch of floral hibiscus, and some watered down concord grape juice notes. This has a solid lactic sourness to it that is quite refreshing. The body is fairly light, there is some lactic slickness, some contribution from the tannic oak, enough to have a palate presence, but this is still quite a quaffable brew. The oak character contributes soft buttery notes, a sustained, though soft woody flavor, lightly peppery spice note, and a soft nuttiness. The malt character here plays a supporting role, but accentuates the light nutty note from the oak, there is straw like grain character, a touch of whole grain cracker flavors, and perhaps even a soft, whole grain bread character here.

Quite nice, a bit more complex in character than the Reserve 2, but also not as well integrated and tasty as that one. Still, this is a more than acceptable brew, and one which I am quite happy to quaff for the evening.
