COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This barrel-aged ale is a celebration of the California autumn harvest. Brewed with heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay, crisp Fuyu persimmons from Hamada Farms in the San Joaquin Valley and fresh ginger from the Santa Clara Valley, then aged for over a year in white wine barrels to create a deliciously complex wild ale. Enjoy with delicate white fish and roasted squash.

thanks Hector .. . drank at the Petrol Station .. . lots of mango, some mild yeast and light pineapple skin .. . pretty good, easy to drink .. . . there’s something about flying a kite at night that’s so unwholesome.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a white head. Citrus, lemon, apple, and oak. The ginger is faint. I didn't pick up any pumpkin or persimmon. Very sour. Solid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A soft pour into my New Belgium Globe glass produces a one-finger thick, palest of tan colored heads; the head leaves some nice, layered lacing on the sides of my glass as I work my way though. The beer is a pale amber color that shows a lightly hazed, rich gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells tart and fruit laden up front and is backed by rich woody notes towards the finish. Green apples, star fruit, Sauvignon Blanc like wine notes, soft vanillin notes, hints of spicy oak, woody pepper, woody plank aromatics are all noticeable. A supporting malt character provides touches of hay, a pale grain aromatic, and a soft pale malt nuttiness; this last is accentuated by lightly toasted oak aromatics. The oak, at times, is the dominant character here, but it manages to stay well integrated and smooth.

Tart, effervescent, oaky, and light bodied, at first I was thinking this is like temptation, but perhaps a similarity to Jolly Pumpkin might be more apt. The sourness is extremely appetizing; it brings out a soft lemon like note, hints of sour apples, tart star fruit, perhaps a touch of not quite ripe kiwi, and maybe even some watermelon rind. The oak is well integrated here and manages to be almost savory in its impact; the oak contributes flavors of toasted, nutty oak, soft spicy notes, rounded woody notes in the middle and finish, and hints of butterscotch and vanillin. The body of this beer is quite light and quaffable, the prickly effervescent carbonation is nice, but this is a beer I would love to drink a lot of (too bad this does not come in 750s).

This is damn good, the more I work my way through my glass the more I am enjoying this beer. Surprisingly good, and I will definitely be looking out for more beers from this brewery. I really like this, despite the oak being the dominant character here; usually an oak dominated beer is just too spicy, woody, and alcohol accentuating, here though the oak is just really smooth and tasty.

Aroma is surprisingly nice with some vinous notes along with citrus, faint ginger, some fruit and balanced phenolics. You can even pick up faint persimmon notes. A slight lactic character. Pours a cloudy yellow with hints of gold. Big, pillowy, white head with average retention. Light lacing. Flavor is similar to aroma but dominated more by lactic acid. Some citrus and fruitiness. Ginger, pumpkin and persimmon are all faint and secondary to the acidic notes. Some vinous oak notes in the finish. Finish is dry with light bitterness. As it warms the pumpkin and ginger become more noticeable. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall another surprisingly good beer from Almanac that was brewed at Hermitage. Surprisingly well balanced considering the variety of ingredients. If anything the spice and fruit were underutilized which is much better than heavy handed. I will say I wouldn't be surprised if the lactic acid came from a bottle rather than a bacteria. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
