Ale Aged In Wine Barrels With Strawberries and Nectarines When summer comes to California’s Farmer’s Markets, the stands explode with mountains of mouth watering stone fruit and plump strawberries. Aged in used wine barrels for a year, this refreshing & tart wild ale was made with sweet coastal strawberries from Swanton Berry Farms and high-summer crimson baby nectarines from Blossom Bluff Farms. Here’s to our California summer harvest!

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours a hazy gold with some white head. Funky nose, rhubarb, wood pulp, pithy, some lurking acidity. Flavor has acetic acid, lemon, peach, grass. Acetic finish. Solid.

Bottle thanks to txultrarunner. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head. The aroma is strong sour fruit, strawberry. Thin mouthfeel with light tart strawberry and lingering sourness. Very impressive.

he flavor follows with a strong sour profile and mild citrus and berry. Kind of tastes like sour watermelon jolly ranchers without the sweetness. There’s some juicy nectarine in there as well. Finishes dry with hints of oak. The body is light and spritzy. Perfect for the style. This was the best of the sours we tried from Almanac (#1-#4). Overall this is just a really solid American wild. Probably one of the best I’ve had this year. A great sour with phenomenal fruit flavors. Recommended.

Tasted at GABF. Almost more of a Berliner Weiss than a Wild. Very dry and tart with a hint of wet fruit on the back end. I was expecting a bit more of a mouth puckering sour flavor, but the richness and wet characteristics of the beer make for a very interesting glass.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Yellow pour with a white head. The aroma is full of some strong strawberry notes. Smells almost exactly like strawberry cheesecake. The flavor is also very similar to strawberry cheesecake. I get some strawberry notes as well as some biscuit and a medium level of tartness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Delicious. Super pumped I got to try this one.

Thanks to tastybeer for splitting this with b3shine and myself. A nice sour is very balanced and a great way to kick off an evening. If there are still bottles of the first two in the wild I would love to try them.

Aroma / Appearance - The body has a nice golden hue. A crisp clean white head and sheer legs provide nice contrast. Lemon, starch, and crisp cool weather smell like a late summer harvest. Earthy and dry as a good champagne this has a great balance.

Flavor / Palate - A delicate mix of strawberries and melons is a tart fruit salad. The simpleness of the sour base hangs in the throat. This is more like a berliner weiss than a full on intense sour. That makes it easy to finish regardless of whether you have one or three people to split the bottle.

Flavors of tart sour sharpness up front tangy wood wine barrel notes fresh strawberry and nectarine mid palate and finish. Acidic and sour but fruity at the same time. Good fucking shit. Well carbonated. Well crafted fuck yeah. "Meh" (Jon, 2006).

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Doug! Murky, amber-yellow with full opacity and a thin, wispy film that doesn’t stick around for very long. Aroma is different and delicious; tons of sweet strawberries, candy-like and reminiscent of Pez. Sweet and lightly tart with a faint touch of lemon juice and tangerine tang on the back; mildly acidic smelling. The taste is superb, and oranges (nectarines) come out full-blast on the palate. Tangy nectarines, acidic sourness, lacto yeast, mild strawberry candy notes, sweeter in the finish but tart all the way through. Puckering, dry finish. This is a great beer, and I hope the rest of the Farmer’s Reserves are this tasty.
