Ale Aged In Wine Barrels With Strawberries and Nectarines When summer comes to California’s Farmer’s Markets, the stands explode with mountains of mouth watering stone fruit and plump strawberries. Aged in used wine barrels for a year, this refreshing & tart wild ale was made with sweet coastal strawberries from Swanton Berry Farms and high-summer crimson baby nectarines from Blossom Bluff Farms. Here’s to our California summer harvest!

Just wonderful, drinkable creation. Funky, fruity, and mildly tart. Unique, tasty, complex. Purchased from California.

(375ml bottle) clear gold, fine white bubbles. Nose of honey, tart strawberries, light acetic acid, fruity, peaches. Taste of tart apricot, light acetic acid, strawberries, honey, citrus is hard to detect, very well balanced sour, light lemon too. Great seltzer finish.

375 ml bottle from bytemesis- thanks again! Pours a hazy pale gold color with a fizzy eggshell colored head. Aroma of lemon, strawberry, nectarine, oak, funk, white wine grapes, herbs, and pepper. Flavor of lemon, strawberry, yogurt, tart candy, and lactic acid. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a tart, crisp mouthfeel. Tasty sour ale.

Aroma has a hint of strawberry puree with citrus accompaniment. Taste has a bit less strawberries, light sweetness, a bit tart but not overwhelming, drinkable as hell. I wish the fruity flavors were more pronounced but still a damn good beer.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2014 12.7oz shared by phaleslu. Good bigger tart taste, mild sweet. Nice rhubarb, strawberry aroma, light creme. Medium body, light soft taste, more dry finish, lightly soft carbonation. Awesome golden orange color, mildly hazy, thin white head. Good bits and short splotches of lace. Very nice lightly sour tart ale. Good lemony citrus aroma. Man, awesome strawberry aroma to this. Great strawberry sour.

Bottle. Thanks Jack for sharing all these. What a treat. This was super tasty, maybe my favorite of the four. Its so rare to find a strawberry sour and this one is super well done. Nice puckering sourness, plenty of strawberry puree/seeds, light nectarine.

375ml bottle pours semi-clear golden orange with a finger of head. Nose is tart juicy berry, oak, and subtle earthy funk. Taste is crisp tart strawberry, cherry, vanilla, nectarine, musty wood. Finish is sour lacto fruit juice and strawberry, barrel. Fantastic.

Sampled in a small bottle. So far my favorite from the series. Not your normal sour but a really cool and unique brew. The strawberry flavor is subtle but quality. Highly carbonated.

Hazy slightly orange pour with a nice thick white head - much of the head sticks around for a while, a bit of lacing. Really nice appearance. White wine grape and some sweet fruit to the nose. Taste is excellent. Sour, a little citrus, stone fruit and a hint of strawberry on the finish. Really nice.

Bottle from trade. Thanks! Pours a hazy light yellow with a half finger fizzy white head on top that dissipates quickly. Big sour aroma with vinegar, apricots, sour light citrus, and just a hint of strawberry. Really nice. Flavor is sour up front with a sweet strawberry-banana mid-palate, and ending with an extra sour kick of tangerines (nectarines I guess) and apricots. The finish has a dry oaky feel but with some additional warmth in the chest as it goes down, similar to a dry white wine, and I assume this comes from the barrel aging. A really nice medley of flavors that still let the sour punch shine. Light bodied and very effervescent as would be expected from the style. Heavy carbonation that prickles the tongue. Overall a beautifully crafted brew! I think if I liked strawberries in my beer more this would be rated higher overall, but even as someone who is not a huge strawberry fan I found this to be excellent. Maybe because the strawberry is subdued. A must try for the sour beer and the strawberry lover. My second Almanac beer and they continue to impress.
