Ale Aged in Wine Barrels With Cara Cara Oranges, Meyer Lemons, and Buddha’s Hand Citrons. This tart, citrus-infused wild ale is the story of a farm. In 1921, Shotaro Hamada founded Hamada Farms in the San Joaquin Valley. Today, his grandson Cliff manages 235 acres of bountiful land. Brewed with a tantalizing blend of Hamada’s winter citrus - Tart Cara Cara Oranges, sweet Meyer Lemons and fragrant Buddha’s Hand Citrons - This refreshing ale is aged in used wine barrels for over a year.

Tap at Library Alehouse. Clear glowing orange. Wispy foam. Nose is similar to barrel aged stillwater cellar door with fresh blood orange, key lime, sage, grapefruit, some buttery oaked chardonnay, salt and pepper seasoned grapefruit. Taste brings extensive lactic acid all encompassing, key lime, grapefruit, sour unripe peach. Mild sage and salt. Another boss sour from Almanac. Russian River sacrilegious level of quality.

A fantastic sour! Thanks so much b3shine for this gem. Pours a hazy yellow/sour. Aromas of vinegar, lemon, and funk. You get some nice barrel notes.. Funky, sour, citrus flavors.. Well balanced. Very nice.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2015 375mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Nose is dominated by loads of citrus fruits, lemons especially and a touch of orange, with oak and maybe a subtle hint of white wine. Very complex, hugely citric but in a good way and only too drinkable. Excellent stuff.

My favorite in this series, because the fruitiness is really aggressive and distinctly citrusy. I could drink this for days. Light tartness, with a refreshing lemon zesty character and some slight bitterness in the finish. Excellent, excellent beer.

This might be the strongest, most pronounced flavor in a beer I’ve ever experienced. The sour starts with the aroma, definitely a strong, dry citrus smell that did not prepare me for the nuclear sour that followed. An explosion of tannic citrus mouth pucker. Not sure I would order another, but an interesting one off experience.

Small, white head over clear orange beer; end of bottle deposit loosening. Vinous, oranges & lactic acid, preserved citrus. Citrus, lemons, faint sweetness (as dates?). Lipsmacking sourness, but not really much depth. Dry, dry-out effect, finish is slighlty empty. Quite nice, but the nose promised much more complexity than it really offers. Many thanks to M & L V!

Bottle: Semi-clear, yellow-ish body with a lightly foamy white collar that never reaches full head status. Aroma of sour lemons, must, generic citrus, some cotton funk, a bit of white grape, & a strong, dripping wet oak presence in the back-end. Lots of lemon on the palate. Lemon juice, light floral & herbal tones almost edging towards verbena but not quite getting there. Tart citrus flesh, lacto yeast, damp hay bale funk, & a touch of musty wood in the aftertaste. Light, sharp body, thin & crisp. Another solid sour ale in the Almanac series.

375, wow this was amazing, huge lemon flavors with a good amount of tartness, the wine barrel adds immense complexity, I love this!

Decent clarity. Brown orange color. The nose is very clean. Nice orange and clove with a touch of lemon. This is really good. It’s like drinking beer lemonade with some sort of lime and OJ finish. Mineral taste present. Really nice body.
