We love blackberries. Tart, sweet and complex but guarded by thorny branches, these alluring fruit have been a favorite of ours since we added them to our very first beer. This sour blonde ale is infused with loads of coastal Blackberries from Swanton Berry Farm in Californiaís Santa Cruz Mountains and aged in wine barrels for many months. Pair with duck dishes and summer salads.

opaque between peach pink and carrot red color, little lacing round the edges. effervescent scent, yeast, sweet honeysuckle, cardboard, taste is hard too put my finger on, light, getting some berry, reminding me of their rasperry offering last summer. I donít know, much like a fruity wine.

Bottle. Pinkish rust orange hue, pure white head. Blackberry seeds, earthy, sour, some slight lacto, hay, and dry cobweb in the aroma. Flavor is more tart than the others in the fruit beer range for them, tart unripe berries, seeds, slight hay. Lighter tangy body.

Bottle: † Vibrant orange with a faint pink hue on the pour, thin to moderate frothy white head, little lacing, moderate carbonation. † Tart nose, bright, a little berry like, unripened berry that is. † Whoa, very dry, puckering, nice carbonation, unripened berries up front, witih a very slight hint of actual Blackberry on the backside. † Does have a very slight mealiness to it, seem to get that with most Almanac beers. † Not enough to detract. † Nice body and mouthfeel. † A little prickly on the tongue too. † Seems to become a little lambic like on the backside as it does cause salivation to occur.   Did I mention dry? † Nice and simple. † Wished the Blackberries were more pronounced, but as is its fairly tasty.

Bottle: Slightly red-tinted copper & amber, muddled with no real head, only a small, gray shaded collar. Aroma of sweaty funk, barnyard hay, & straw with strong underlying notes of sour blackberries, raspberry, red grape skin, perfume, & a small hint of wood. Taste is lightly acidic & even a little citric up front. Lemon, stone fruit. It slowly transitions into a darker fruit profile with sweet & sour mixed berries. Blackberry itself is hard to pinpoint. Could be almost any "berry", really. But it tastes good. Some lightly funky oak leads into a moderately acetic & dry finish. Sharp body. Another really nice sour ale.

375 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Hazy dark orange with a finger of off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Some floating sediment bits. Aromas of vinegar/acidic notes, citrus, wine. Maybe some berries on the aroma but very subtle. Tastes of citrus, vinegar/acidic notes, sour berries and lemons, puckering sour notes, some wine and oak. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Medium carbonation, semi-juicy mouthfeel. The blackberries donít come through as much as I expected but still a tasty sour ale.

375 ml bottle acquired either via trade or online purchase. Canít remember. Pours a nice glowing amber berry tinged hue, reddish copper fire and bubbly effervescent carbonation through the body. Frothy whitish head atop dies to a small loose film, stays small and laces small overall. Aromas are gentle tannic wine and oak meet some blackberry pulp, a bit seedy and dry. Mellow funk, touches of cobwebs meet vanillin, some fruity twang of melon, lemon and yogurty lactic presence. Touches of blackberry, faint cranberry, honeydew and decent sour spritz. Initial is lighter end of the fold, gentle spritz and vanillin. Wet oak, touches of sour blackberry and lactic sourness. Lemon, grapefruit and cranberry. Touches of more wet oak, firm yogurt. A sourness is decent in strength, some nice wine barrel tannic presence, more blackberry, seedy and a bit tannic and dry as we move on. Well fermented as not much residual sweetness remains. However itís also not a brooding, big acidic sour, more reigned in with nice seedy and dry play on the backend. Yogurty, blackberry and gentle tannic backend. That weird cinnamon dusting or spice that I got in a previous Almanac sour as well recently. Nice and fairly on point. While it lacks potency, it certainly is approachable and has some nice play from the wine barrel, blackberries, and well done base sour. Tasty.

A pinkish blonde beer. Aroma and flavor are more tart than sour, and also more tart than fruity. Would have like the blackberries to be a little more heavy, but this is still a good beer, even without the fruit. Almost very rustic saison vs super scidic wild. Easy drinking and pleasant, but...I can get that for a lot less than $11 a bottle :)"

Grapefruit pink color. Hard to get a nose. Certainly acidic and juicy. Clearly blackberry. Had that classic almanac acidity and tongue wrenching sour not the most sour beer but itís up there. Nice mouthfeel for a draft offering. Blackberry flavor is muted. Closer to peach and raspberry

Draft for the Almanac 3rd birthday tap take over at Toronado, SF. Strange pink, purple gold like color. Aroma is sour oak, light musty basement and tart blackberry.

Flavor has just enough berry to provide a tartness that helps counter balance the funky oak notes. Dont misunderstand, it still has plenty of sourness and lactic acid but the berry help cut through it and gives another layer of flavor. Not sure how old the keg is but I preferred this over the Reserve citrus I had 10 minutes before this.

Pretty colored pour. Nice tart smell of acid and BlackBerries. Tastes good. Sour but not vinegary. Enjoyable

Apricot golden red hued, ivory foam fine and persistent small head, slightly trace oily surface, hazy. Dominant clean lactic sour, milk cream, mild fruit berry aromas, hay pastoral, light wood, straw, raspberry tang, light chalky mineral. Feel is light mineral spritzy. sour lightly salty finish. Wonderful.
