COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Golden Gate Gose is a special draft-only beer inspired by the classic wheat beer hailing from Leipzig, Germany. Traditionally brewed with salt and coriander, our tart California-inspried version is brewed with San Francisco Bay sea salt, lemon verbena and coriander grown especially for us by Dirty Girl Produce in Santa Cruz, California. Fermented with our house saison yeast, this delicate and tart beer is a perfect summer refresher. Pair with fresh seafood and sunshine.

Bottle, shared by SaulTBauls (of course) in a location remote to my dining room.
Pours a very hazy yellow with a small head.

The aroma has some sweet tarts & coriander. It’s sort of smoky with some light yogurt.

The flavor is tart and has that yourgurty lactic twang. It is sort of grainy & bready with some mild spice and salt. There is a light minerallity to it as well. It’s mildly but very pleasantly sour.

Bottle (CBC Clapham): Golden, hazy, small head; sourish-yeasty nose with traces of turpentine (necrotic yeast) over a solid fruity base; sour and tart flavour, but also a light sweetness is detectable; light to medium bodied with a quite soft MF; lingering tart-sour and sweetish-fruity finish. Good...

Bottle to glass. Pours a darker color than other gose I have tried, lightly hazy, light copper color. Aroma is coriander, wheat and a hint of salinity. More coriander forward than others. Taste is wheat beer with coriander, spice. Salty enough for a mouth watering sensation, but not enough to seem tart or sour. Palate is light body, well carbonated. Not bad, but doesn’t beat Westbrook’s Gose.

What a nice, refreshing summer brew this turned out to be! Everything is balanced...lemony tart without being sour, coriander is obvious without being overbearing, lightly salty and fruity finish. So it manages to be complex and contemplative, yet a great quencher and food beer. Almanac brews another winner!"

22 oz. bomber from Wilbur’s. Appearance: 2 finger white soapy head that does not last, pale straw, cleat, light but lasting lacing. Aroma: slight apple, bready, metallic. Palate: light body, lively carbonation, light tart finish, lively texture. Taste: light sweet malt, into nice sweet fruitiness that lasts and maybe gets the slightest bit tart. Overall, very nice, subtle, but flavors are present. Super drinkable, very pleasant balance. Very nice.

Bottle thanks to Tim and Rachel. Light golden pour with a small bubbly white head. Sour lemon juice aroma, acidic with a good dose of minerals. Flavor is similar with zesty fruit, peppery yeasts and saltiness. Very light palate and a dry herbal finish.

Appearance: Dark gold body, lightly hazed and topped with a half inch white, accumulating head fed by a few fizzing streams of effervescence.

Smell: Pungent lemon verbena is the top note of the aroma, layered over lighter, lesser hints of malted wheat, coriander and sea water.

Taste: Wheat malt with a very thin toasted element and a low, sweet honeyed hint. A salty briny quality is present, but it’s light, and obscured (along with the coriander) by the herbal lemon verbena, which, for me, is a wholly unnecessary edition. Very low, very restrained lactic accent. Finishes lemony with an added snaps of lively suds.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Reasonably quaffable and with a subtle lactic edge that’s far less aggressive than many of these other goses that are springing up across the country. Still, I’m not sure why they felt the need for the verbena and would welcome its exclusion from future batches.

Bottle @ RBESG Aug 14 CBC Clapham, thanks to Bruce. Pours cloudy yellow with off-white head. Aroma of sour citrus & dough. Taste is sour lemon and lime, tart and crisp, with pith & floral notes and light wheat. Refreshing fruity gose.
