3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle; Pour is slightly murky burnt sienna with a fine bubbled, off white head in this glass - its a modest head, with average retention, with some lacing present here as well. The nose is pumpkin pie spice initial, caramel and brown sugars, sweet breads, and a touch of booze. I really wanted this brew to be ’the one’ as far as pumpkin brews go (it still goes to rumpkin). It’s not. Anyway - its overly sweet initial: caramel, butterscotch, sweet bread, the brandy treatment adds some booze and apricot, moving to pumpkin spicing and pumpkin puree. It fades with a lingering, slight bitterness and a chewy mouthfeel overall -

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On Tap 5oz pour at Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Beer Festival 2013. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a medium tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells like an average barleywine with pumpkin, spices and brandy. Tastes like barlywin with a hint of oak, brandy, pumpkin, and spices. Mouthfeel is heavy and oily with good carbonation and a dry finish. Great pumkin barleywine which tastes awesome after being aged in a brandy barrel. Wish I could find this here in Washington besides just at the pumpkin beer festival.

This is an awesome barleywine. I don't usually care for beer with pumpkin but as a barleywine lover, this is a big exception. Gotta try to get a couple more of these.

Bottle to pint glass
Aroma of pumpkin, plum, cinnamon, wheat and alcohol. Slightly hazy amber with a bubbly off white head and lots of effervescence. Strong alcohol that kills pretty much everything but the pumpkin.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle - Sweet pumpkin, orange, booze and spices. Dark clear orange with a thin head. This doesn't work, too much booze, cloying and the pumpkin tastes more like burnt orange.

Bottle thanks to bytes! Pumpkin pie spice in the nose. Lots of cinnamon. Flavor full of cinnamon. Maybe nutmeg? Hazelnut? Very nice. Not your typical pumpkin beer. Didn't get the brandy until I read the label. Very yummy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is fairly dominated by pumpkin pie spice with some nice allspice, clove and cinnamon notes. Moderate roasted squash note with hints of caramel and a hint of brandy.
Pours a slightly murky, copper amber with a fairly thin light tan head that recedes very quickly to the edges where it lingers slightly.
Flavor starts moderately sweet with a nice caramel character. As the caramel fades you get more squash character which recedes as the spices and moderate bitterness becomes apparent. The brandy notes and alcohol wash away some of the spice notes. The finish is hints of brandy, a light roasted squash note and some allspice.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency, likely attributed to the spice, and medium light alcohol warmth.
Overall an interesting beer with complex character. I’m not sure that I enjoy everything about the beer but its a clean, nicely made beer. Lots of complexity, but the spice might be a bit on the strong side. An interesting take on the traditional seasonal pumpkin beer.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Bev4Less. Thanks Freddie. Pours a murky brown-orange, minimal white lacing of foam. Aroma is rich of oak barrels and rich brown malt, barley. Not much pumpkin. Taste is delightful. Lots of oak to balance out the sweet malts of the barleywine. Still not picking up a ton of pumpkin, but it’s all happy-sauce all the time. Great stuff in terms of balance, clean mouthfeel, and tremendous overall palate that does let the pumpkin spice slip in at the very end, after an ample, but well disguised/accounted for ABV burn.
