This is a beer made with real pumpkins. We hand-roasted over 500lbs of heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay. The caramelized gourds were then added to our velvety American Barleywine and aged in brandy barrels for a year. Finally, we blended the barrel-aged beer with freshly brewed ale and added a delicate hint of pumpkin pie spices to round out this decadent autumn sipper.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2013 12.8% bottled Autumn 2013 that is a 37.5cl bottle that is courtesy of GT2. So a barrel aged pumpkin barleywine. Wow, that is ‘out there’ but I’m game. It pours with a hazy rusty amber body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up ripe cherry fruity esters, smooth sweet brandy, blended and blunted cinnamon and brown sugar coated wood. Well off in the back, if I concentrate, there’s snippets of pumpkin meat notes. The taste erupts with a multi facetted flavor attack. I get ripe cherry and prune like sweet fruity esters, fairly smooth sweet brandy booze notes and then cinnamon. Next the brandy gets boozier and a touch harsh but a pleasing mix of pumpkin meat, cinnamon graham cracker and a highly toasted pumpkin pie crust hold this together and take it to new heights. Wow. What the… Smooth notes of cinnamon, brandy and mild pumpkin hang on into the finish and after taste. Very cool experience. This beer begs the question, will there be a non Heirloom Pumpkin version (just regular run-of-the-mill pumpkins)? I just need to get up to the brewery and start bugging people and asking questions until they toss my sorry ass out. Cheers! (dang, the wife likes this too!)

Wow, this was one of those random unplanned finds that turned out to unfold into most excellence. Copper brownish color with a hint of orange. Tanned head. Nose of sweet brandy, earthy squash, caramel malt, and a ever so slight hint of booze. Flavors spill onto the palate starting with a tender sweetness blended with pumpkin, allspice, and cinnamon, that melts into an encompassing brandied pumpkin, right out of the cask from which it came. 12% ABV is hidden delicately. Fantastic brew!!!

Tasted at the 8th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on Nov 9, 2013. This barleywine/spiced ale pours a medium amber orange color. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, caramel, pumpkin, brandy and brown sugar. A medium to full bodied barleywine. The malts are fruity and sweet, caramel and pumpkin. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance between the malts and pumpkin, wood and brandy. Touch of brandy sweetness. Some alcohol and a touch of spices. Very smooth. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Aroma of caramel, cereal, pie spices, and slight alcohol. Appearance is amber orange with small, white head. Taste sweet upfront with complex spices and pumpkin, it then transitions into a slight alcohol heat and clean hop flavor. Medium bodied. average carbonation, Long sweet finish with spice. Overall good barley wine and even better pumpkin beer. Could only drink about 5oz, then too much.

2013 vintage shared by MrBarleywine, thanks Mike. Orange/Copper color, pumpkin spices, fruit and caramel. Surprisingly good for a pumpkin beer.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2013 Bottle at Stone beer garden. Pours a deep clear orange with barely any white head and some nice lacing. Aroma of massive pumpkins, caramel malts, vanilla cream, and some nice cinnamon and nutmeg that is there but not overpowering the aroma. Flavor is sweet up front, big pumpkin flavors, caramel malts, some cinnamon and nutmeg spice on the finish that keeps this from being extremely sweet. I assume the sweetness comes from the brandy barrels. Slick palate but surprisingly light bodied, low to medium carbonation. This is as unique as it gets, and pretty amazing.

Via trade with 82300SD. The aroma is pumpkin/squash, caramel, pumpkin pie spice, earthy, somewhat sour, barnyard. The appearance is a hazy red. off-white head. The flavor is pumpkin (big time), sweet, caramel, pumpkin spice, brandy is very restrained, giving a slight fruity, boozy quality to the beer. The finish is spicy, sweet, piney. Medium in body. Not much booze at all for something this high in ABV and aged in brandy barrels. Nicely done. Only the aroma is the slightly off.

Bottle. Cloudy brownish dark amber pour, with and small off white head. Sweet toffee malt, brandy, sweet pumpkin pie, oak, pie spice, nutmeg, light molasses, and some booze. A tasty sipping pumpkin ale. Sweet and dense.
