This is a beer made with real pumpkins. We hand-roasted over 500lbs of heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay. The caramelized gourds were then added to our velvety American Barleywine and aged in brandy barrels for a year. Finally, we blended the barrel-aged beer with freshly brewed ale and added a delicate hint of pumpkin pie spices to round out this decadent autumn sipper.

On Tap 5oz pour at Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Beer Festival 2013. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a medium tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells like an average barleywine with pumpkin, spices and brandy. Tastes like barlywin with a hint of oak, brandy, pumpkin, and spices. Mouthfeel is heavy and oily with good carbonation and a dry finish. Great pumkin barleywine which tastes awesome after being aged in a brandy barrel. Wish I could find this here in Washington besides just at the pumpkin beer festival.

bottle shared by tom10101, thanks bro! pours hazy orange-red with a very nice off-white head, good retention and lacing - particles everywhere though - but it’s acknowledged that it probably is spices more than yeast residues. sweet and spicy brandy-soaked dried fruits, lots of brown sugar, buttery barrels, celery and dill. lively carboantion - could settle a bit for a better sipping enjoyment; medium body; sweet, boozy and grassy-spicy finish. interesting use of pumpkins.

Bottle 375ml. Pours hazy reddish amber with high beige head. Very nice lacing. Aroma is of spices, fruits, sugar (brown). Taste is of spices, pumpkins, alcohol, strong alcohol (liquor), some bitterness. Palate: Full bodied. Soft-medium carbonation. Overall: Good. Not cloying. One of the best I’ve had in the pumpkin spectrum.

Bottle (375 ml). Split with the Québec crew. Thanks to John for this one!

Appearance: Sligthly hazy deep copper with a medium off-white head and little lacing.

Aroma: The nose is quity spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon) with brown sugar, pumpkin, alcohol and caramel notes.

Taste: Quite spicy too (nutmeg again), but a little less than the aroma so that leave more space for the other components. Brown sugar, alcohol, pumpkin and moderate bitterness.

Palate: Medium to full bodied. Medium carbonation. A bit liquorous. Warming finish. Moderate lingering spiciness.

Overall: Not bad for what it is, but hey it’s still a Barley Wine and a Pumpkin beer. Alcohol is hidden relatively well. Decent / good.

Pours a clear copper with a small white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is pretty much all nutmeg but if you try hard enough you might convince yourself that there is some caramel behind. Taste is really spicy and nutmeg-forward and not too sweet. Some really light pumpkin flavor. Moderately bitter. Body is medium and carbonation medium-high. Mouthfeel isn’t too sticky and alcohol is pretty well hidden. Overall a good one but I’m not sure I’ll seek out a pumpkin barleywine ever again.

Bottle @ THT January. Pours a clear amber beer with a small off white head on top. Aroma has loads of pumpkin spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugary touches and hints of oak. Flavor is sweet with a big boozy note, brandy touches, pumpkin again and has this sticky sweet mouthfeel. Greatly balanced, great sweetness and alcohol is not overpowering. Great stuff!!

Bottle share. Thanks Matt Reece/blackcloudlabel. This was poured into a sample flared pilsener glass. There was a nice light half finger-ed white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute leaving a slight lacing roaming here and there. The smell had an authentic bourbon to vanilla sweet and somewhat pie - like/crust to light bread and even biscuit - like to an extent. The taste was mainly sweet and bready toasty /biscuity - ness roaming across my tongue. Light vanilla to roasty sweet aftertaste leading to a sweet and dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. There’s a light sweet carbonation about it. Overall, definitely a pumpkin ale I could come back to with extra compliments to it.

Stop it. Wtf is this sweet vegetable joose. Beer smells ok and reminds me of pie but the taste oh the taste.... Really sweet vegetable compost. Take broccoli trunk, potato peels, carrot tops, and pumpkin guts and put em in a bag with a lb of sugar and a cup of cinnamon and a bottle of brandy and let it ferment. You will get this. Thats what this is.. try it! do it! you wont do it!
