Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 17, 2012
750ml bottle. The pour yields a cloudy, glowing medium orange-amber colored body. A thick, lasting layer of off-white froth settles at the head, leaving behind dripping arches of lace on the glass. The nose starts out with a lightly sweet, fresh cereal base that is overlain with suggestions of blackberry chiffon and mild floral and herbal hops. Yeast is subtly tart, touching on some citric notes and edgy barrel tannins, showing some peppery oak tendencies. Damn, this stuff smells pretty nice. Flavors mirror the nose, showing a semi-sweet golden cereal base, followed by a soft kiss of blackberry and noticeable vinous acidity and barrel tannins. I wish there were a more thorough attenuation, as the cereal impedes the more desirable fruity tartness, but it still works on the whole. The palate is predictably a bit heavier than I’d like, showing just a touch of excessive residual sugar, but it is well carbonated and about as refreshing as an 8%’er can be. Overall, quite a nice little package. A few tweaks could make this a real winner.
