PIB 2008. Interesting brew, prefect for a winter day, maybe just a touch over the top in dead summer. Pours darker amber with a soft tan head. Smoked flavors build on a toasty and nutty base. Earthy and woody flavors show in the finish, sort of camp-fire in a bottle in the aftertaste.

[Italian Blind tasting @ yespr, Bottle 25#] Hazy deep amber with large off white creamy head. Smoky aroma with toasted malt and caramel notes. Smoky flavor with roasted malt, caramel and note from infection. Finishes bitter.

Blind tasting @ Yespr. Itís red-brown with a creamy head. The aroma is smoked with sweetness and notes of bacon. The flavour is smoked with notes of caramel, malt and bacon. A nice smoked beer. Iím surprised to learn that this isnít a smoked, but a barley wine?

Bottle# 25: 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy amber to brown with a lacing white head. Light citric and solid smoked aroma. Flavour is rubber smoked and with a mild caramel malt beneath. Has a light acidic note. Ends medium dry and tarish smoked.

Light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Light sweet and sour flavor. Light sour fruity and smoked finish. 5 / 3 / 5 / 2 / 10 = 2.5

Hazy dark amber color, with generous compact head. The aroma is mild, a bit smokey, but also earthy; shaking the glass some thing better and deeper comes out. The flavor is malty, the body is medium, not too round and strong; there is a mixed smoke and cabbage note that disturbs (already found it in other similar beers); correct bitterness; the final is rather simple.
Not bad, but confused, and not enough malty to be a Barley Wine as they promise.

Cloudy amber color. Medium smoke aroma. It has a quite round body and a nice malty sweetness, a touch of apples and good smokey touch. Good.

Numero venticinque de la degustazione cieco in casa di yespr. Botella. Murky amber brown colour. The aroma is sweet, bit smoky and soursih. Sweet, mildly bitter, fruityish and bit smoky flavour. Dry bitter-sweet finish.

Hazy orange coloured with a small off white head.
Sweet aroma of caramel and smoke with flowery notes.

Dark murky brown ale covered by a light off-white head. Iím afraid my experience somewhat differs from Jorisí. First, when I bought this at the excellent Off License store in London, I was told this was a smoked strong ale. From the nose, you would not necessarily guess, it is certainly mildly smoky, but the strong beer part is more obvious:) Strongly honeyed and shooting its ingredients in a straightforward manner. It grows meaty in mouth and indeed quite woody, in a smoky way, but quite dry. On parallel, as is often the case with Italian beers, there is a ton of sedimented yeastiness in there and it does not feel very clean, powdery even, but with pleasant pear and peppery spiciness yeast derivatives. Surprisingly light-medium body, but cleansing carbonation enhances the unclean powdery, yeasty,, woody dry finish.

No head but little rim; red-amber beer. Wood, (milk)chocolate, some dryness converted into the nose; acetone when warming up. Very wry, woody taste, woodstripper, going in the MF to astringency, certainly in the finish. Burning MF, dry-out effect. Very severe(ly dry) beer, but above all not balanced.
