Cloudy brown beer. Crispy palate, a tad dry. Smoky malt is immediately evident, but not overpowering. Smoke is well integrated with the fruit and the malt and this the smoke is balanced nicely. Finishes dry and with more of the same. Very drinkable.

On tap at Selezione Birra 2012, Rimini. Pours a light brown color with a decent off-white head. Aroma is lghly hoppy with dominant roasted and smoked notes. Bacon and lard in the nose. taste is sweet-ish with a nice smoke presence. Again, the smoke is not woody but meaty. Good carbonation and medium body. Overall, very nice and tasty.

Purchased at Johnny’s Off License, near the Vatican, April, 2009. Shared at Skyview tasting, November 11, 2011, and I believe that photo is my bottle. I liked this more than the other guys, maybe because of memories of my travels. Anyway. Medium sweet with caramel and malt. Very low carbonation. There is also an earthy, light peat character I did not expect. Dry for a barley wine. 3 years old should not be too old for this kind of beer, and I think it held up well.

This was an odd duck, light in color, with a bland malt profile. The flavor was both non-deScript and slightly offensive. I don’t know what was going on here.

Amber body with an off-white head. Hoppy aroma with some caramalts and a smokey touch: quite well balanced. Smokey, bit malty flavour.

Bottle @ RBBWG thanks to Benzai. hazy amber coloured beer with some medium carbonation and a medium off white head. Hoppy hinted aroma with some slightly roasted woody malty hints. Medium to full palate. Finish is herby yeasty with some oaky acidic hints. Very nice.

Reddish amber, off-white head. Aroma of malts, leather, sweet nuts, some light hops. Malty flavour, caramel, sweetish combined with light sour tones. Some wood and yeast. Finish astringent, some vanilla and caramel.
(From 75cL bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen. Thanks for sharing, Benzai!)

750 cl. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 – thx to Benzai – amber with a white head, smells of nutty malts with a dash of hops, taste is not particularly distinctive or impressive caramel hops, some slight brown sugar, slight roast, medium bitterness, light hops, odd smokiness running through it, creeps a little bit up in the aftertaste, medium carb. & body, ok, certainly not bad but not particularly impressive either
