Outstanding, complex, multi- flavored beer. This is very pleasant surprise from Italian brewers. Not too sweet and smokey, great beer.

On tap at bir&fud. Very complex beer, strong enough as regard the alcoholic graduation and very strong malt feelings. Persistent froth. Dark aspect and full bodied. The whisky taste is noticeable enough. Not too much indicated in summer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy SoLan. POurs a cloudy dark amber color, with a small white head. Smells of some smoky peat, a little wood, dark malt, and nutty roast. Liked the aroma. The flavor had a big, nice, smoky complexity ot it that was refreshingly interesting in this brew for this style. Very woodsy, with the fruits and roast coming in towards the finish. The smoke however lingers in the aftertaste, leaving a smoky bitterness on the palate. I dug this brew. Definitely underrated at this point, almost laughable at some of the scores.

Bottle. Cloudy reddish-brown color, sparse off-white head. Nice aroma - peaty with a moderate mix of spice and chestnut. Taste is not too sweet, good balance with the spices plus a little smoke-like character with the peat presence. Surprisingly good.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2008 Bottle… Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8… Murky, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The nose is of nuts and caramel with pronounced smoke. Medium to full-bodied with sparkling carbonation. Sweet, nutty flavor and finish. Underrated! Kudos to SoLan for popping the top on this one!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Soapy, off white, medium head.
Aroma: Smoke, caramel malt.
Flavor: Like a Rauchbier, almond, caramel. fruits. Bitter finish.
Personally, I feel this brew has been under-rated. I confess to having a bias towards Smoked/Rauchbiers, which are Lagers but that is what this reminds me of. Is this right for a Barley-Wine? No! But, I still like it and that is what this website is about; Personal Opinion!

Quarter inch stiff and wiggly tan cap (mmmmmmmm……..stiff and wiggly) that sits on top a hazy brown body. Very interesting aroma, nuts, tobacco and old bubble gum? Aroma is not the greatest but its complex and interesting. Flavour is like the aroma not the greatest but very interesting. Lots of nuts some astringent, I taste the smell of fabric Band-Aids, some cherries and all comes across mildly bitter. More that I drink the more I notice prunes, figs, a mixed bowl of nuts, some orange and mild smoke. Very interesting beer will worth a try. Thanks Gully

Bottle, sampled at Cole’s Italian Beer Tasting: Dark amber color, topped off by a thin white head. Smoked malt aroma with subtle toffee notes in the background. Very nice smokey and sweet malt flavors with some light whiskey and oak notes. A pretty solid beer, that I wouldn’t mind having again.
