Bruer is an American Barleywine Ale created by Tony Halsey, one of our brewers. He created this brew special for those dark days of winter. This beer is malty and hoppy.

This is kind of a lackluster barleywine. It is big, sweet, sticky and bitter. It pours cloudy brown w/ a small foamy head. The only notable flavors are some orange citrus and earthy bitterness to go along w/ a simply sweet malt character. The high alcohol content lends kind of a medicinal character as well--and I am normally not one to notice alcohol.

22oz bottle in a sampling glass. Super hazy orange amber. Aroma is astringent alcohol malt. Some esters, basically what is usually bad for barleywines. Same with flavor, lots if orange fruit and alcohol. I used to be able to handle this but not anymore.

Bottle shared by BeerBoxer. Pours hazy dark orange brown with a beige head. Aroma is light treacle with floral hop. Med body or nearly. Flavor is caramel, a little alcohol, some light hop. Drinks ok. More like American Strong Ale.

Bottle shared by beerboxer. Pours orange copper with a short beige head and a light fruity aroma. There is a hearty caramel malt flavor with a lot of hop bitterness. Not a typical barleywine, but pretty tasty.

Bottle shared by beerboxer. Pours deep copper light brown. With off white head. Taste is light fruit with a big hop presence. Reminds me of a strong ale more than a barleywine

2/4/2014. From bottle. Pours cloudy brown with a tan head. Aromas are sweet and malty with light fruit. Sweet flavors with a light bitterness towards the end. A bit too syrupy for me, but not bad.

It poured a cloudy red color with no head. The aroma was of burnt caramel - a little overpowering with lots of booze and some candy. It had almost no carbonation. The taste was sweet with a thick consistency. Not a huge fan of this - too sticky sweet for me.
