Brown/black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, and a hard burnt coffee like bitter finish. Much like black patent malt. Medium bodied and fizzy. borderline harsh

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. The label said ’Beta’. It poured a deep brown to black color with a beige head. The aroma was of roast, cocoa, a bit of chocolate and hops. It was medium-bodied with chocolate, thick and roasty, cocoa and some warm vanilla.

Sampled at the brewery tasting room. It poured an opaque black with sudsy foam of tight little beige bubbles, long-lasting with nice lacing. Malty sweet, caramelly, chocolatey, toasty, fruity, smokey, roasty. Boosy, some definite rum barrel notes. Heavy syrupy body, full bready mouthfeel, charcoal aftertaste. Tasty and true-to-style barrel-aged RIS, though my favourites are more fully attenuated. Definitely something worth trying while it lasts.
