2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
On tap at the brewery during SRBG week 2014. Comes a clear gold with a small white head. Different aroma of citrus and tropical. Taste is the same. Something went wrong here.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
On tap @ Alpha Brewing. Clear golden beer with a white head. Celery style IPA. Smells like vegetables and apples. Some melon and pine...light citrus. A bit of bread and a lot of grass. Bitter pine, grass, and orange peel flavors. A bit of sweet malt and melon. Fair amount of celery and quite watery as well. No thanks.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Sampled at Alpha Brewing during RBSG. Pours a golden color with white head. Vegetal, weird grainy, chemical flavors. Blah.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taster on tap at the brewery. Totally clear golden orange color. Thin ring of off-white head, a dot or two of lace. Decent citrus hop flavor, light spicy. Taste is not great though. Kind of a biting acidic bitter taste. Spicy and acidic. Aw man, taste on this is surprisingly awful. Medium body, kind of watery. Soft, lighter carbonation. Dry finish. Ehhh...

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Generous piur at the Heritage Fest. Hazy and some white in the hold. A nice bitterness at the first sip. Passion fruit meets tropical fruit. Pale malts. A nice hop profile. Something close to grapefruit emerges late. Good stuff.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at their tap room, thanks Derrick! It poured a mostly clear golden amber colour with weak white foam. The grainbill was kept simple in order to showcase the unusual New Zealand hop. So far, Iíve enjoyed Pacific Gem each time Iíve encountered it. It shares traits with its Cluster and Fuggle parents, but with a stronger, sharper bitterness and additional resiny, melon-y, Chamomile herbal tea-like notes. As with all these Alpha single-hop trials, the focus is squarely on the hops, and arenít "balanced" beers per se, but thereís nothing wrong with that. A nice hoppy summer refreshment even if you didnít know the back-story.
