The return of “Bad Boy,” our ‘other’ double IPA, happens this Thursday as soon as our doors open. It’s NOT bottled but we will be filling growlers at the brewery and glasses at the pub. This beer, created by Shawn, uses hops that weren’t around when Pure Hoppiness was invented. That’s one of the reasons it has such a huge hop presence. We also use predominately Premium British ‘Maris Otter’ barley which enriches the flavor and deepens the body. Be careful at 9.25% abv

In a world where a growler can make it across sed world for some beer freak, to drink I never imagined I would be on the receiptory of such an adventure. As I type this I have recently benefited from something equally as crazy. A gentleman who makes his own beer and will remain nameless (not my beer contact) did procure growler(s) of this bad boy, and then using his bottle siphon, transfer this to a bomber with no room from O2. It thus travelled to Michigan where I was able to share it with the intended receiptent, and that is the story of how I was very lucky this valentines day, *wink wink*. Hence, bomber to snifter... Not much head, I’m forgiving in this department giving the circumstances. The nose on this beer is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a clear golden orange and it smells of, mango, guava, cat piss, weed, dank jungle fruit, and god’s vagina. This is the best nose on an IPA/DIPA hands down. It would oust Pliny or Two hearted... Accept it’s not from Michigan (biased) and the body is a little thin. It’s drinks to easy, if there is such a problem. Do not get wrong this beer KICKS ASS however if we are going to this echelon I have to be picky. Carbonation perfect, mouthfeel just a smidge to thin, that’s the only possible detraction I can send toward this beer. The weirdest IPA burps I’ve ever had, seriously pineapple. Overall this beer kills!!! This is all from memory 2 hours prior, thank you universe for this and thank you Cheff Scott. And also that crazy guy in Cali, send us some jack in the box tacos (frozen) next!

Growler. Yellow/orange pour with a white head. Fruity hop aromas. Tasty fruity hop notes. Good balance with a nice caramel malty presence. Good body and mouthfeel. Just about as good as a IIPA gets.

Type: Draft Glass: Pint glass From: Alpine Beer Company in Alpine, Calif. Price: $6.00 Purchased: Oct. 15, 2014 Consumed: Oct. 15, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a honey, light caramel, semi-clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of offwhite head when I got it. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom at parts of the glass. Very good layered, spiderweb lacing along the sides of the glass. Good retention on top. (Sight - 4.38) Initial smell reminded me of a Duet. Got grapefruit spices, Citra hops, tropical notes, mango notes late, caramel, nectarine rind and floral hops. (Smell - 4.38) First thought on taste was wow! Still reminded me or a Duet. Caramel, Citra hops, Columbus hops, bitter grapefruit pulp and just feels like I’m tasting pulp. (Taste - 4.50) Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter, slightly warming finish, surprisingly. (Feel - 4.38) This was a very, very good beer. So glad I’m living so close that I can catch some of these on random nights. (Overall - 4.38) 4.43 98 A
