Tap. Pours opaque reddish black, small beige head, nice lacing. Aroma is rich and strong with notes of coffee, dark roasted malts, and cocoa. Flavor is about the same, light sweet, light bitter. Full bodied and creamy.

Overall a pretty good regular stout with nice roasty chocolatey flavors that finishes dry and lightly hoppy. Very nice creamy palate for a regular stout. Good beer.

Tap at Alpine. Pours a clear, deep ruby. Webby, tan lacing. Nose is dusty, malted milk balls, cocoa powder, brown sugar, hazelnut, and butter. Taste follows suit- milk chocolate, nougat, a lot of Irish dry stout character. Palate is light, clean. Nice- could go under Dry Stout category.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black with light, whispy, tan head / Mild nose of chocolate and coffee / Medium body, some chew, somewhat watery but with otherwise good balance and lightly bitter finish / Simple but pleasant flavors of stale roast coffee, cocoa, and vanilla / Mediocre.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave on 10/07/2012, crazy Redskins and Nats playoff day.
Appearance: Pours a black opaque.
Aroma: Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, faint vanilla.
Taste: Light bitterness, light roast, chocoalte, faint vanilla.
Palate: Medium light body, slick.
Summary: One of the last of Dave’s California haul. A really nice stout that seems like an imperial stout but is not, which is appreciated as every beer doesn’t need to be 7%+ alcohol.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very well balanced chocolate oatmeal stout. Roasty, chocolaty, nutty, not too heavy and hoppier than most stouts. Yet it remains balanced and very enjoyable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This for me is near the pinnacle of the style for a non-imperial, no-adjunct stout. Really good roasted malt character gives lots of cocoa and espresso beans. Just quite good flavorwise with drinkability to boot.

A-- Poured a dark cola color and settled black. Just a hint of light at the head of the beer. Half finger of dark mocha colored head. Very short lived. Went quickly to part film and part collar. Better looking head on swirling as more staying power to the head. Couple wisps of lacing on the sides. Stayed at film through drinking.
S-- Dry nose off the bat. Good amount of oatmeal. Bits of coffee and hints of maple syrup. Nice amount of roast. Good balance.
T-- Dark chocolate, roast coffee, oatmeal, little bit of coffee acid and some vanilla extract and maple syrup. Once again well balanced. Nothing too over the top.
M-- Medium feel and low carbonation. Quite rich feel to this. Dry finish but what catches me is the dairy milk, vanilla coffee, and maple syrup just before it goes dry.
O-- Just light enough to be able to want to drink more but big enough to carry all the aspects of the beer. Well balanced and a lot of fun to drink. Not necessarily exciting but a well performed beer. Types of beers I wish were made more often down here and not the watery 4.5% ones.
