COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream.

Great blankets of lace on the glass from a smallish head (for the style). Deep dark brown where no light shines through. Straight up black patent malt aroma. Lots of coffee on the tongue. Smooth but in an espresso sort of way. Rich body but with a good level of carbonation. Relatively short aftertaste.

Tap at petrol station. Dark brown pour, bartender overflowed it so no head. Aroma is faint coffee. Roasted malts. Not much on the nose. Taste is roasted malts, a bit of dark chocolate, faint hoppy bitterness on the end. Medium body, medium carbonation. Just Ok.

Keg at Whole Foods Short Pump. Pours black with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, leather, green hops, match heads. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, resin and piney hops. Medium bodied, well balanced.

Growler fill from Whole Foods Short Pump. Pours black, darkish tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roast, bit of coffee. Hops balance, but for bitterness. This is malt focused, and very well done. Comes across much bigger than a 6% beer, rather surprised to see that ABV. Very well done.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. So happy to see Alpine beers showing up here. Dark brown pour, lots of chocolate. Very very smooth; went down very easy but in a good way. Nothing over the top but a very solid stout. I’d happily drink again.
