COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream.

On tap at Alpine, pours an amber-tinged with a small beige head. Aroma is very dry and toasty, like a typical Irish stout. Flavour brings out roasted malt, very dry toasty notes, and some woody notes. Thin bodied but nicely dry and toasty. Solid stuff.

Draft - Chocolate bittersweet with the usual coffee that accompanies. Jet black with a thin brown head. Espresso, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Pretty light body and the standard I would expect from the style.

RABinCO (1232) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUL 26, 2013
Bottle poured into a goblet. Pours a nice dark brown with a cream head and spotty lacing. Aroma is super buttery, not a flaw iím used to in stouts. It overpowers anything else that might be there. Taste is butter, a bit of bitter cocoa. Almost feels grainy. Not enjoyable at all.

Tap at brewery. Dark brown but thin around edges and in palate. Coffee and dark roast malt bitterness. Good but not worth seeking out special or wasting a drink on if you need to drive from brewery...save it for the IPAs.

ansermadide (1519) - Kyle, Texas, USA - JUN 15, 2013
Very dark brown in color with a light/medium brown colored head, this beer smells robust and full of roast and chocolate. Very nice! Itís sweet and well- balanced. Smooth and soft in the mouth, rich and enjoyable, this simple but distinct stout isnít heavy at all. It almost seems light-bodied. Itís very classy... dare I say sultry.

Dogbrick (7973) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Pours a nearly opaque black color with a touch of ruby around the edges. Medium creamy tan head that dissipates slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with notes of malt and chocolate. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, coffee and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a vanilla mocha aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle from Larry, nice dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and a lot of malt with a bit of roast. Taste is a bunch of roasted malt with a chocolate backing, typical stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Fairly black, sudsy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Very pale roasted malt nose.   Soft sweet roasted malts, tart, a little airy on the tongue.   A little bit of fig, dates, and prunes on the backside.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Solid example of a Stout.   Wished it was a bit heavier tho.

pours black, very little light caramel head. Roasted coffee aroma, and some burnt chocolate. Medium thickness. Tastes like dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. Another fantastic beer from Alpine.
