stefanje (483), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2008 Bottle shared at Toncatcher’s awesome tasting. Pours a pinkish color with a small off-white head. The aroma is funky and tart, with a light nose of sour cherries. The flavor is also overtly sour and tart, with sour grapes in the forefront along with some oak, but the cherry character in the flavor never really gets off the ground. The palate was just a bit thin and the carbonation was lively. The finish was long and tart. Overall: Since I rather like sour, I liked this offering. We tasted the 2005 Cantillion Blabar later in the tasting and I noted many similarities between these two, I think this lambic would fare well at an all sour lambic tasting.
DaSilky1 (1528), San Diego, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 I need to give props to Pat & crew...If Pat is still the crew, who knows...it’s been a a while since i paid any attention to the brewing industry, but in any event...They deserve praise for doing this beer. Alpine came out of nowhere with its "Pure Hoppiness" and blew the IPA fans away...Then, they beat us over the head with Exponential Hoppiness before double IPAs even became a normal thing...You never really saw two many belgian ales come out of Alpine until somewhat recent...at least, not that i ever saw...Then there’s the Chez Monieux..This cloudy playdoh/blood orange fluid is damn right inviting if i do say my damn self. The nose was a floral garden of vinous cherry with old citrus/ruby red grapefruit waves. Flavors were vinous and slightly citrusy with floral sweetness riding along. Its perfectly clean throughout with no major flavor flaws...the floral fruitiness is down right fun...the sourness is solid, and well, the beer is fucking cool man, shit. Snojerk321 (907), San Diego, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 2nd beer tasted @ the Stone Sour Fest 2008. Poured a hazy pink color with a fizzy one finger head. Tart cherry and with some wood and spicy funk. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy Ibrew2or3. Thanks Dave. Pours a slightly hazy peach with a small white head. Aroma of tart citrus, spicy yeast, and oak. Taste is the same as aroma with tart cherries in the finish. Medium thin mouthfeel with a moderate amount of acidity and a spicy finish. A little pricey at $30 a bottle but at least I didn’t pay for it. Very good. sebletitje (147), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2008 Updated: Jul 22, 2008Bottle courtsey of ibrew2or3. Pours amber/red.
Nose is filled with yeast and light cherry tone. The flavor has again a lot of yeast and oaky, giving a tart, lightly sugary, but very dry and acidic aftertaste.
Really couldn’t get over the vinagry acidic taste. Overpriced. JK (2356), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Jul 15, 2008 Some brett in the aroma and the flavor. Lots of yeast in the aroma and light cherry. The flavor however, is loaded with sweet cherry, like cherry pie filling, perhaps not that sweet. A little acidic. Sour for a fruit beer. Mildly sour. A bright red color. A very nice fruit beer. Thanks to BDR for sharing.
